Should elbows to the head of a grounded opponent be banned?

I think they should. I don't care about the brutality, but I do care that way too many fights are either stopped or significantly impacted by massive facial cuts caused by getting hit by an elbow while on the ground.

It's too easy to slice somebody wide open. And some fighters seem to have REALLY sharp elbows. I did a quick compare yesterday with four of my friends, and it was surprising just how much variance there was in how pointed our elbows were.

I'm okay with standing elbows. But elbows to the head of a grounded opponent should be taken out of the rules IMO. I don't like seeing fully-conscious fighters who are completely capable of defending themselves and fighting back, lose fights because they have a massive cut on their forehead caused by a glancing elbow.

    Discuss. :good

No. The amount of fights stopped due to cuts caused by elbows is greatly exaggerated.

A fight doesn't have to be stopped because of the blood for a cut to significantly impact the result. :good

True. Knees can cause cuts, too. Those cuts can significantly alter the fight. Same can be said for punches. And kicks. :good

I appreciate your wit, but when a forehead cut happens that bleeds enough to significantly impact the fighter's vision, what are the odds that it was caused by an elbow while the guy was on his back? Pretty high IMO. Elbows slice people's faces much deeper and more often than punches, kicks or knees do.

This question is purely a matter of opinion and it's equally valid to take the stance of wanting them out, or keeping them in. I just want to see what the proportions are. :nono

If you wanna watch ballerina dancing go watch ballet....

It's a combat sport, what's next, they are going to take out knee on the torso of a downed opponent because it's too violent...

Or maybe not allowed to hit the head....Brock would be a BEAST !!

You gotta be a dick every day on every topic huh? :-(

PRIDE didn't allow elbows to the head for that EXACT reason. Because they cause too many massive facial cuts which lead to fights getting stopped on cuts, which most fans consider an unsatisfying ending. Was PRIDE worried about appearing too violent, you ****ing moron? :patsch

It's a non-issue, why don't you name the handful of gems that are interrupted by cuts??

...ask me if I care if PRIDE didn't allowed elbow...just ask me if I care you ****in infected twat.

The only rule set I agree with are Vale Tudo and the ONE FC rule too...it just suck to take out weapon out of a fight because it "may" cut the opponent...

Haggis you just suck on so many level it's incredible... !

I think you have more sucktion power then a 30 floor building with central vacuum in it !:good
