"Great" fights you consider overrated?

I've never heard anyone call it a boxing match. Slugfest, war, brawl, fight, etc it's a classic. I love that fight, and those like it such as Hagler-Hearns. I like somewhat short, competitive fights that offer immediate gratification and conclucive endings, like one guy getting put the hell down. Another example would be Hamed-Kelly or Carbajal-Gonzalez 1. That's just my preference.

Problem is when you are at the closed circuit site....and the cold beers are flowing....and the good looking hammers are all walking around showing off their chi-chi's, sometimes you remember the "event" better that the fight that you actually saw.

Which in other words = we form a warped overrated view.

Not that i've had many closed circuit opportunities out here.

Thrilla in Manila is a bit overrated, IMO.

Sure, it was brutal, and yes, it exceeded expectations at the time, it deserves to go down as a classic, but a lot of people think it rivals or betters the first Ali-Frazier fight. It's either the morbid fascination with the "almost shot" warriors bashing each other into the ground, or it's the fact that the "people's favourite" Ali actually won that attracts people, I guess.

I think the first Ali-Frazier fight was a good deal better.

Arguello vs Pryor series. IMO, these bouts weren't that close.

Although the fight was a lot of fun, I'm not certain that Bruce Curry-Monroe Brooks should earn the distinction of "lost classic" that it sometimes gets, simply because it struck me as being a bit too one-sided. Sure, Brooks swung for the fences a lot, but most of the punches were landed by Curry-and I had Curry way ahead when he stopped Brooks in the 9th.

Mayweather vs De La Hoya, was marketed as " The fight to save boxing ".

If that's the case, then boxing is screwed.

As you guys know, the Curry-Brooks fight was a true grudge match.
Lot of bad blood words between the fighters were in the Ft. Worth press.

Yeah, it was two over-the-hill heavyweights and they were doing a fair bit of wrestling.

Still, it was an okay fight though. And I enjoy watching Holyfield prove so many doubters wrong.

i agree entirely, sit down 2 people who have never seen either and know nothing about the antagonists and shown them this fight and the first leon.-Duran fight and ask which is better. i think the 1st leo.-hearns fight is boring.:ziggy
