Did you see Parker's fight? Would like to know what you think of him.

Highly regarded New Zealand heavyweight prospect Joseph Parker (who only barely came short of qualifying for the Olympics in London later this month and decided to turn pro) won his debut by TKO, battering 2-1 Dean Garmonsway with rapid quick hooks in a brawl.

His promoter didn't like him mixing it up like that so early and would have liked to see him be more careful, but is very optimistic about Parker's future. He says "the heavyweight champion of the world is about to retire and run for president of the Ukraine and is 41 years old, so you know, it's wide open for a young kid..." :blood

Early days but looked promising. :thumbsup

Damn near smacked the ponytail off Garmonsway.

Yeah, he's basically all we have got in New Zealand.

And ignore Bob Jones (Parker's promoter) he's generally regarded as an idiot.

Sweet. I fancied Barrett big style until I realised it was Shane Cameron he was fighting and not Rob Calloway. Dunno why I got them mixed up... :conf

    Round 1

Wilson circles left and unrolls his jab slowly, like a great squid tentacle. Haumono squats and tries to bob in on the much taller man. The height differential is listed as four inches but appears more like half a foot at least. Wilson has Tyson Fury size (and about as much flab). Haumono is working the body a bit, smacking wide to the flank with mostly sidearm wrist shots. Wilson isn't throwing anything, just backing up and covering his head as Haumono hits the body to try and chop him down.

    10-9 Haumono

Can anyone explain Haumono's layoff of more than two years that lasted until last December? He quit rugby several years ago, didn't he? :huh

    Round 2

Haumono squats and springs up off bent knees with big looping rights to the body. Wilson backs up to the ropes and leans against them. Slapping hook to the head by Wilson trying to circle away from the ropes, caught partially on the back of Haumono's left glove. Haumono picks off Wilson's slow jabs while stalking his way in. Jabs and rights to the belly by Haumono from outside, leaning back out of the way of counters as Wilson looks to take aim from against the ropes. BIG LOOPING RIGHT BY HAUMONO, flush behind the ear and landing from out of nowhere. Wilson hurt, down, and saved by the bell.

    10-8 Haumono

    20-17 Haumono

Haumono drops Wilson at the end of round 2. Great shot. Wilson will continue and is saved by the bell.

    10-8 Haumono.
