Jones was shot to smithereens, but still looked pretty nifty at times in terms of skills... because he was facing a fellow shot fighter, but a vastly, vastly inferior one.

But I agree that if a "shot fighter" turns in a strong performance against a live opponent, then by definition the "shot fighter" ain't actually shot.

 

Not really... some fighters can turn back the clock and put in a good performance but that doesn't mean he could do so consistently and throughout the whole fight... If he wasn't shot.. then he would be able to do so and still be somewhat prime.

 

Holyfield did well in his rematch against Lennox Lewis. Also, Joe Louis looked decent against Ezzard Charles and was doing relatively well against Marciano until the stoppage..

Holyfield against Valuev not that Valuev was some all time great but he made Holyfield look like he was near his prime years and got robbed

 

Both were past primes, but were still top contenders to the title.

Roy's fall to a mess was slower than most thought it was. He had something left that his recent fights took out of him.

Yes, he was still a decent fighter against Calzaghe and Tarver. His apologists say otherwise.

I'd say his losses to Green and Lebedev are the ones that really took it away. He looked TOTALLY done against that bum just awhile ago. Way worse than he looked against Lacy and Sheika, against a fighter probably worse than either. In fact, I've seen Roy in the gym before his fight with Sheika(Trained with him) and before his fight with Lebedev, and trust me, two different men.

Roy was past his prime against Tarver, Johnson, and Calzghe. He was shot against Lebedev. Know the difference.

I think Morales against Maidana is the perfect example. Morales was dead from the waist down, and wasn't able to time or land sharp shots, but he has such presence and smarts, and he simply let his hands go and hit the crude Maidana. Ultimately, he lost because his arms got tired and he couldn't get away in the 11th and 12th rounds, but before he ran out of steam above the waist, he had a fair few rounds where he lit Maidana up.

 

Bruno against McCall ranks up there ....pure will power got him the belt .
