http://www.combat8.com.au/ "Mixed Martial Arts VS Boxing No Excuses" Aussie bloke Nathan Swadling has created a style of fighting that puts a boxer against a mma fighter to find out who's best. No kicking, elbows or knees. grappling and takedowns/slams are allowed but once on the ground the ref will stop the fighters and bring them to their feet. Although once per round a fighter can signal for a 30 second period in which they can use ground work (go for the submit, ground and pound etc) to finish their opponent. First show is on at Newcastle Panthers club Sept 1st :think hmm seems interesting enough i'm keen to see how it goes.... i feel abit as if it will be another show in which we just get a bunch of MMA blokes who are well trained in take downs and simply charging in and throwin the boxers around and doing damage ending the boxers on the ground though..... good to see its an Aussie's gig though!! what you blokes think??
I like it alot for the casual fan. Great website to, looks like some money is going into. Would check it out for sure if it was in WA.
Seems more focussed on casuals and entertainment than actually seeing "who is better" which is a ridiculous point. Might go along though depending on how much it is. Newcastles the hub
I agree. So the mma fighter can't use his Mixed Martial Arts (elbows, kicking etc etc) and only has 30 seconds to sink in a submission and get a tap. What a load of ****in ****. What a ridiculous idea. How about a rule where the boxer can't use his left hook as well. Who came up with this nonsense ? I don't care what anyone says I would back prime Fedor against prime Tyson in a street fight/anything goes fight.
:good I understand where your coming from mate truth be told though I am interested to see how it all unfolds. I definately spectical for bogans all over to wear tapout shirts n bung on about how useless boxing is in a real fight etc etc though....
Without a doubt, Fedor would annihilate him. :good I'm not sure this combat 8 thing is worthwhile though, I mean they're different sports, they don't need to be mixed. It's sort of like saying who's a better jumper, a high jumper or a long jumper, so let's have a medium jump competition to find out. :nut It's silly, they are both good sports in their own right, and they should stay separate. If a boxer really feels he can beat up a MMA guy then he should simply go and fight under MMA rules, and vice versa. Both sports have a good set of rules, why **** them both up with half assed rules hobbling them both.
how bout Fedor VS Tyson in a boxing match? the whole MMA VS Boxing thing is apples and oranges really... spose this whole combat 8 type fighting comes down to how well the MMA can get in close to make a take down and how well he can use the 30 secs and on the other hand how well can the boxer "box" and keep the mma fighter at a distance and not let the himself get into clinching and grappling.
No question Tyson beats Fedor at boxing. I enjoy both MMA and boxing and don't see why it has to be a contest about which is the best. They are separate sports and should be enjoyed separately.
They are both big powerful athletes so always have the chance of landing something but 99/100 they will win at their respective sports. But thats just an MMA match up between a grappler and a boxer. What this is is an MMA fight with less grappling/groundwork which uneducated fans don't understand. Don't get me wrong should be fun to watch but doubt any real MMA guys will take it on as it strongly favours the boxer compared to regular MMA fights.
