Freddie Roach is by far the most overrated trainer in boxing

Been with Pac for years and he's still a crude brawler. People come up with this BS about him being able to box now but he still doesn't have a clue.

Pac, like Khan, is a raw talent. They both get by on their physical attributes such as speed. Neither have any technique. Khan has been with Freddie years now and still has no footwork whatsoever.

He's got his pros and cons, just like everyone else.

    I don't think he's the best in the world, but I don't think he's a bad trainer.

To an extent he is, but still is a great trainer.

    It's all Roach's fault.

I'm not saying he's bad but he's nowhere near the genius he's made out to be.

He is incapable of teaching his fighters footwork/defence/boxing skills

EDIT: I do acknowledge it may be simply impossible to teach this stuff to Khan/Pac. Neither are very bright.

Freddie the joke coach Roach don't know **** about the sport known as the sweet science. He needs to stick to his doctors appointments and starbucks coffee and leave the game to the real trainers.

Agree good trainer yes,but even better at picking opponents at the right time for Pac.. If it was not for him,Pac would not be considered an ATG by many.. The path of least resistance is what got Manny so far.. "Well the last 3-4 years that is"

He was/is really suited to training Manny, I don't think much of what he's done with other fighters has been extraordinary like Oscar and Tyson etc

He peaked when Pacquiao peaked which means its no surprise he was winning awards left right and centre past few years.

I think Amir Khan could do with a new trainer actually, he's picked up some stuff from Roach but I wonder if there's someone else out there that could maximize what he's currently good at but also teach him new things and work on his inside game, ability to clinch etc. For some reason there are glaring flaws that just don't seem to go away with Roach as trainer.

I think Freddie is great at creating offensive minded. aggressive fighters. But his fighters do seem lacking in defense...that aside, I think all trainers have their shortcomings in terms of teaching their fighters all faucets of the game.

I totally agree with these opinions on Roach as well as Garcia. These guys get great praise but normally there fighters take too much damage and will suffer in the long run. I will say that these two trainers do put there fighters in some exciting fights but the long term effects will be slurring and brain damage. Neither seems to teach there fighters how to adjust or how to effectively use the jab, move there head or feint. Defense hasnt been taught and when the speed or conditioning of there fighters goes. Like for instance of a Pacquaio or Rios. These guys will take brutal beating unlike a Bernard Hopkins who learned the sweet science.

I cant believe Roach hasnt taught Pac how to cut off the ring or to use his jab to pressure a guy and make them constantly defend. Now there has been some success but the end is quite clearly near for there prize pupils and I hate to see the punishment and the beating that will come for them. Arum really doesnt care as long as he gets paid. I remember Pac saying he was retiring about four years ago and hes still fighting. If I was Pac I would cut my ties with Arum and the rest of those leaches that dont do much. Fight Mayweather as my own Promotion and reap the benefits like Delahoya and Mayweather.

Now why a Roger Mayweather hasnt won a Trainer of the year baffles me. The best trainers who give there fighters a good chance to win and have long success is as follows.

    1. Emmanuel Stewart is great teaching guys to fight behind a jab and throw the straight right hand. This is good for big tall guys but would also be effective for smallquick guys IMO.

2, Mayweather Senior- Defensive wizard but needs to be focused. I like what he taught Dawson, Ward and of course his son. He loves to also work behind the Jab.

    3. Roger mixes in his offensive skills in with the defense taught by Senior and made floyd a monster. I love the way he transformed Floyd from a high ouput puncher to a conservative take less chances and punishment to preserve his career.

    4. Teddy Atlas- I also thought was a great combination trainer with some of the great head movement and constant pressure.

    5. Nacho is a great trainer under-rated IMO but teaches his fighter how to adjust and how to use there natural attributes to win fights. Now some of his business decisions can be questioned with MARQUEZ BUT IN THE RING HE TEACHES AND USUALLY CALLS A GREAT FIGHT. With the exception of the last MARQUEZ FIGHT TELLING HIM TO TAKE HIS FOOT OF THE JAB.

It was actually Senior that wanted jr to be more defensive minded. He commented about the augustus fight I think, something about how jr never would have got busted up like that if he were training him. He mentioned recently that he wished Floyd would let his hands go more.
