Watching Brits get expose with having poor inside game is becoming a common theme. We saw it tonight with Brook and also Khan. Great long range skills, dazzle from range but seem to get roughed up up close. Aside from from a handful I am struggling to think of many Brits that can mix it up from range and on the inside. Wonder why this is? Do u think it's just the style of boxing embedded into fighters since the amateurs, that upright style - move your feet..
Exactly. He was holding, head locking, pulling neck down and just didn't seem to know what to do against a pressure fighter. This is the first time a guy has put pressure on him & it showed. He had no idea what to do in the last few rounds.
On the positive, the first 5/6 rounds Brook dominated with speed and accuracy, looked to be on the verge of a KO at times... But agreed his inside game wasn't great. Reminded me of watching Khan/Peterson. Let's see if they improve it. I guess it's something that can be learned, whereas having fast hands isn't so much
What is it with the word "exposed" tonight? Ok Brook made hard work of it at times but exposed? really? Bottom line is he was in a entertaining fight, he won, he is unbeaten and is in line for a title shot.
Bells has a good variety of punches on the inside same goes for Chunky and Gavin but I think they all need to be tested against tough Americans before we all get too excited
I think the word exposed is warranted when u compare the success he had on the outside vs the inside exchanges. Every time Jones had Brook on the ropes I felt like I was about to have a heart attack. I do believe he can work on this and hopefully it was more a case of fatigue due to the broken nose and pace set. But if he wants to be world champ he needs to deal with this kind of pressure and needs to do more than just hold and push off when his man gets close. Anyway this is a discussion about the lack of inside game with British fighters as a whole not just a dig a Kell's performance
The thing is it wasn't a fast paced fight and no disrespect to Jones but he is not a very good inside fighter.
