No I had Donaire winning 114-113, I was saying I couldn't believe how wide the judges scorecards were. If Mathebula hadn't gotten hurt in the 11th, and kept fighting he could have won or at least got a draw.

From what I have read he broke a tooth. I turned it off after I heard the ridiculous scorecards.

 

My (cough, cough) cable was acting up a bit tonight so I'll have to watch the replay and see if I feel any different. The knockdown and cracked tooth were typical of what I saw in the fight. Power vs arm punches. I score fight first, boxing match second. I don't care as much about how pretty the technique is if a guy can walk through your punches and put you on your axe.

That's the thing Donaire really didn't catch him with a lot of clean power shots. It's like everybody scored the fight based off the crowd reaction when Nonito would throw a big punch that was blocked (partially blocked) but make a loud thud on the gloves and arms.

 

Like I said, I'll catch the replay at a much better resolution that I saw tonight. It's getting harder for guys that backup to win rounds. Ask Marquez. Judges want guys that come and do their fair share of initiating the action. Donaire puts on a show. Like it or not it sells tickets and the judges know that.

This is one of those ones where it creates the same conundrum as the Pac fight, although to a lesser extent. Which do we favor, volume or power? In one way, we cannot discount someone landing the harder shots but in another way, we can't discount a fighter if he just doesn't have the same crushing power but lands more punches. I think, it's fight to fight... there's no real answer so it's subjective and always will be. In this case, Donaire just LOOKED in control. Yes, the jab affected him but it didn't deter opinion enough for the opponent to get the nod.

 

With respect, I disagree strongly with IB's card but he's not a professional so it's taken with a grain of salt. Im disgusted by the judges cards, as they aren't afforded the same "out", how the **** you see that 11-1 is beyond comprehension. I'm not crying robbery, but I'm saying the judges and/or anyone who had this more than 7-5 are simply wrong, in my humble opinion. All that said, Donaire looked and has looked like **** for what 3 fights now? I have no doubt, Rigo ****s dude up. When the day comes I will be "all in" on Guillermo. This bounce around like the ****** guy on Bloodsport, throwing these amateur grade hooks won't cut it against Rigo. If Mathubla had one bit of power this is a completely different fight.

I usually generally agree with IB but his card was way too wide for my liking. I think when Lederman gives the black guy that moves around and jabs a lot about 5 rounds against a P4P star being the aggressor that it's a fairly close fight.

1st off, those CompuBox stats were wrong. Mathebula definitely outworked Donaire in punches thrown, but the connect disparity wasn't that wide.

2nd...very few of Mathebula's connects were at all effective. Donaire's bombs (although few and far between) were easily worth about six Mathebula slaps each.
