Wlad Klit successfully completed his 17th successful world title defense Saturday night (18th if you consider his first fight with Samual Peter for a vacant WBO title fight).

-Will he surpass Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali's 19 for number 2 spot before he retires?

-Will he surpass Joe Lewis 25* successful defense 1st place spot?

*26 if you wish to include Johnny Davis as a title defense, But really do you want to?

Were they really any worse than the Johnny Paychek's of the world?

Regardless of what we think about the HW division when the Klits wrap it up...
The HW records will 80/90% belong to them.

    Got to give them credit.
Boxing will prop them when they are gone.

Yeah, I'm sure if he fought former middleweights and obese bartenders once a month that'd be so much better.

Wlad should start his own bum of the month club and destroy a different cab driver or hot dog vendor each month.

That'd give him 12 defenses per year + whatever scheduled defenses against real contenders he has.

Louis still got a lot of rep thanks to his bum of the month club and his defenses still count, so why cant Wlad do the same?

Depends on whether you really think Wlad was anything more than a holder of a paper title throughout his first WBO title reign. Personally, I'm not inclined to believe that he was. Lewis was still the recognized champion throughout that first reign, so I tend to count from the title winning victory over Byrd in 2006 (doing so retroactively, it should be noted, since he only really consolidated his claim on the championship when he defeated Ibragimov and then Chagaev).

If you take that viewpoint (and that;s the one that seems most fair, imo) then Wlad's made 12 successful defenses. That means he's got a shot, but would have stay quite active over the next three years or so in order to accumulate a total needed to surpass Ali and Holmes. Stranger things have happened, so we'll see how it goes.

Vlad has made 17 defences over 2 reigns but the WBO title was lightly regarded when Vlad owned it in the early 2000's and Lewis was considered the true champion.Vlads 12 title defences in 1 reign as the undisputed no 1 is more impressive. It also cannot be forgotten that both Holmes and Louis made their defenses in 1 reign.

Will he also hold the record for most HW title defenses not shown on US HBO/Showtime or will his brother?
