How many rounds did it take him to ko that weak chinned punching bag he just fought? And it wasn't even a legit ko, it was a tko after so many knockdowns from well placed punches.

Like wait to see Rigo in with a few guys on the level that Donaire has been facing before you hop on the bandwagon guns blazing, because you KNOW the "overhyped bum" talk is going to follow if he steps up and looks bad

Agreed. The exact same thing you're describing happened to Lucian Bute and (most recently) Kell Brook. It seems that a fighter on here is god himself, ducked by everybody.... until he looks bad. It's pretty pathetic.

 

judging from the interview with max after the fight....it's clear donaire wants absolutely no parts of rigondeaux. i can't say i blame him. rigondeaux will put him to sleep.

Unlike some people here, I've actually seen a half dozen of his other fights. He's a good fighter. He's awkward, he has a high workrate and he's beaten some good fighters before. Not everyone fights textbook. And I also saw Rigondeaux fight Lante Addy, who was a lot like Mathebula, and Rigo looked like crap in that fight.

 

According to a lot of people, Caballero's only redeeming qualities were height and awkwardness as well. Of course, he did also KO about 4 or 5 legitimate titlists, but people just ignore that.

Not everyone fights pretty, but it doesn't mean they're not good. He's sure as **** better than anyone Rigondeaux has fought as a pro. Would Rigo beat him too? Probably, but people who have only seen him against his last two subpar opponents suddenly think he's some kind of power punching monster who can walk through everyone. He's a great counterpuncher who is very tentative at times and has some huge holes in his game that someone will be able to exploit.

 

Whoa......You're putting a lot of hype behind Rig's power. 2 rounds? Seriously? Rig has struggled against far lesser foes than Mathebula. The physical dimensions of Mathebula would have certainly been an obstacle for Rig to overcome.....not that he couldn't.....Nonito was able to adjust....but Rig would need time to adjust....find his rhythm, distance and timing. Mathebula showed he was able to adjust himself....he exhibited defensive skills that were impressive for a man of his size at that weight.

The problem I saw in Nonito's performance was his over eagerness to get the KO via the counter left hook......he was hell bent on knocking Mathebula out that he was over commiting....throwing predictable counters and falling out of position because he was putting so much mustard behind his shots.....he also neglected the body in favor of head hunting.

Nonito could have easily played a different hand....use his speed, combination punching and varying his offense. Had Nonito not been looking for the KO more than likely the KO would have come through a more diverse approach.....Nonito limited his performance based on trying too hard to look spectacular.....or looking for another devastating KO.

Rig is a very good boxer....solid technically.....but he's not as slick as you try to make him out to be. Rig is just very crafty and composed based on his robust AM career back in Cuba.....but defensively....he still more effective than most of the "slick" flashy guys that get so much hype.....there are few Whitaker's, Toney's and Mayweather's who's slickness is legendary in this sport.
