    Agreed :good

But with a media bubble, you can only hype somebody for so long (Looking at the likes of Audley Harrison etc).

Ali and Tyson had REAL talent to complement the media hype - And it's that media hype that has lead to them being 'legends' in the natural definition of the word.

Though that's not to detract from their genuine skillset and ability that many on ESB would lead you to believe is non-existent.

:patsch Umm.. So why do ALL boxers have coaches/trainers?

:patsch Why do all Football teams have 'Managers/Coaches'?

:patsch Why don't great fighters change Trainers just to prove their legacy?

:patsch What top class fighter has performed without his trainer for an extended period of time?

:patsch Why don't you comment from your primary account?

I guess these are some of those 'If you have to ask, you'll never know' questions :think

Overrated how? He crushed everyone in his era besides Douglas and Holyfield who would have lost to Mike before prison IMO and he is a heavyweight ATG just outside the top 10.

He is rated just fine by most level headed observers.

And that's why they were demi-gods...Just like Bruce Lee. (don't know if he'd be worth anything in a real fight , but actor or not..he was a fantastic athlete)...

Ali and Tyson were legit. Anyone who'd say these two were frauds would be lying to himself. However , they certainly weren't invincible and they were also overrated. When you try to be as neutral as possible , you quickly realise that both of them , had just as many weaknesses as the likes of Lennox , Klitschkos , Bowe , Holyfield etc.

But unlike them...They were more entertaining to watch inside and even outside the ring.

But there's entertaining and entertaining...For instance Mayweather isn't as popular as he'd like to be , because what he says outside the ring is generally not funny , nor extremely controversial...Just slightly annoying. (the guy has a huge ego & talks a lot about money but that's it).

Ali and Tyson on the other hand....Totally different media beasts.

I agree I don't want to trash this thread but it was also the sole reason why Michael Jordan was/is a Legend, He lived up to the Hype. It's a problem nowadays that many fighters are media hyped then people get disappointed when they get exposed or weren't what they were made out to be.

He's not better than many versatile fighters. You have casual fans out there that think he's greater/better than guys like Whitaker, Duran, Leonard, Mayweather, Hopkins, etc just because he was a knockout artist.

That I agree with - That people overrate him on that basis.

He is also overrated on his unfulfilled potential.

Barry Sanders and Pedro Martinez were much more captivating than that ****. Olajuwon wouldve won without him retiring.

Come on hands the man was clutch, I partly agree he's a **** and overrated (usually athletes who transcend their sport a prone to this) but he was great.

He was great. Olajuwon's skills were just as great, and being a dominant center he had more two-way impact on the floor. His teams were just ****. Make No Mistake About It: Olajuwon's runs in 1994-1995 are THE Greatest in NBA History and he outplayed dominant Centers throughout them.

I just found Barry Sanders and Pedro more captivating and special at their craft as well. If you dont follow the NFL, you wouldnt know how bad Barry's o-line and teams were. Or if you dont follow MLB and arent aware of sabermetrics, wouldnt know Pedro was the most dominant peak pitcher in over 130 years of the sport.

Yeah sorry man coming from Aus I don't really follow NFL or MLB for that matter. I bet those were great in their respective sports though.
