George Foreman said of "Irish" Jerry Quarry, "[He] was the best heavyweight fighter never to have won a championship belt. When I became Heavyweight Champion of the World, I dodged him purposely. He fought toe to toe with Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier, twice. He fought Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali twice. He outboxed two-time Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson. He outpunched Ernie Shavers. He destroyed Mac Foster and schooled Ron Lyle."

The Bellflower Bomber. No doubt the best we've seen without a belt. He's had amazing wins! A true sweet scientist!

Interesting? I've not once ever heard him called "Irish Jerry Quarry?" And I've been into this dude since I was 6 years old. He came to my neighborhood in Compton a few times to talk to the kids. Irish is a new one to me? He was known as "The Bellflower Bomber!"

No doubt Patterson was over the hill and it was close. However JQ showed the Heart of a Lion as always but what is so under-rated about this dude is his tremendous boxing skill! Even in the Golden Age of HW's which is the 1960s this guy could box with anyone!

golota had size and some skill.

all he was missing was the intangibles.

with more heart and a brain , he could give anyone a tough fight.

he was one big ass pollack , especially back then.

JQ is in the top 5.
Of course today he'd have to campaign as a CW, and he'd be able to. Jerry might be CW champ today. He'd have no chance in the current HW div. against the top fighters, just too small. The late 60s/70s era was competitive but way overrated by too many fans.

Now, most of the HW champs and many contenders are from the old Soviet block - which by the way fighters from there were not competing in the 60s/70s ;)
