I don't think he did. Foreman claimed in his book, that the Ali camp demanded he retain Sadler if he wanted a rematch, which he refused to do. Sadler was supposedly working in Ali's corner during Norton III.
So Ali agreed to loosened ropes,so he could get pounded by possibly the most murderous hitter in heavyweight history, for 8 rounds or so. Obviously Dundee must have forgotten the fix was in when he could be heard shouting "get off the ropes"
Zaire Nothing more than George Foreman having a 'bad day at the office'. And Muhammad Ali, acting like an associate in the sales office, and stealing someone else's sales leads, and claiming he did all the work himself. But the 'Rope-A-Dope' versus Sonny Liston, 'homey don't play that'. This content is protected
Foreman's stamina has been questioned and rightly so. He seemed to tense a bit too much. It's unfortunate that these issues seemed to arise when he was in the heat and during a period where his advisers were dehydrating him to some degree. Not the best combination if your stamina is already into question. To defend Foreman, his tenseness didn't help his cause and his inability to pace himself certainly didn't help. Foreman threw punches like a wild man and wailed away. Liston paced himself much better. He never showed nearly as desperate or stupid of a work-rate and was a far more patient fighter (One of his better qualities). I have my doubts of whether Liston actually has a superior cardiovascular system than Foreman. But in all practical terms his stamina was better.
so how do u explain Saddler never working "with" Foreman again , Ali's management / team demanding him in Foreman's corner or else no fight and later Saddler serving in Ali's corner ? all of these pass u by i c .
foreman fought foolishly. when you tense up and keep throwing big shots you will tire more quickly and that is what happened. ali messed with his mind with all the talk.
Yes, like I said against Marciano. But it would have to be the first time he did it like with Foreman, since if he fought that way with a Foreman, then Liston or Marciano would expect it and have plans for it. Catching Foreman by surprise is why it worked so well.
Liston would n't have been quite as obvious a target for this tactic as George Foreman. On the other hand,he I can see him getting frustrated if he was n't able to deal with it.
Why would Cassius Clay pull a 'Rope-A-Dope' tactic on Sonny, When both fights were 'fixed'. Makes no sense.
If I recall a thing Ali said was that his tactic was never to do the rope a dope from the beginning, he was ment to dance but after one round in that heat he knew he was not able to do that, it would burn him out so he went to the ropes and you can hear that Dundee is shouting get of the ropes! So that is no fix or set up. Foreman fell for an old trap, he thought he could knock Ali out in two rounds, and he was trying harder and harder, hearing Alis taunting him all the time. after a while he lost a lot of his power and Ali could comeback and take him out,
It never ceases to make me laugh, after all these years, when this fight gets referred to as being fixed
Exactly :good In the first round,Muhammad realised that he was taking approximately five steps to one or two of George's.
Are you stupid..? Did you watch Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman..? Ali won 4 of the first 5 rounds. He was fighting off the ropes, slipping punches, tying up Foreman aswell. The Rumble in the Jungle was pretty much over after 5 rounds, Ali had won the fight easy! And Joe Frazier ring side, predicted that Ali was going to stop Foreman. "The Rope a Dope is not just sitting on the ropes, and taking punches".... People forget that Ali did a job on Foreman!!!
