David Price is 29 years old and has had 13 fights. Does he really need to step it up?

He has had 13 fights and hasn't fought at the top level yet. Does he really need to start stepping it up and fight maybe 3/4 times a year from now on? Because he has really only fought at domestic level, whereas the other top contenders are a couple years older or younger than him, and have fought top fighters.

    Opinions?

No, they've got to let him beat up bums in more domestic tilts before they cash him out against a legitimate World-level opponent who will Shatter his Glass Jaw.

Age has little to do with it especially in heavyweight boxing.......besides a certain Roger Federer & Serena both just won Wimbledon again both are in their 30s.........and both beat a string of 20 year olds on their way to the title.
Price looks fit enough to box for several years yet so don't worry about age.

His sparring has been a lot more valuable than the bouts he should have had.

    Also...

You expect him to have fought at the top level after 13 bouts?

I think he should be fighting more often than he does, but who and when and where always seems to cause trouble.

IMO.......how many McNuggetts can he beat......how many are out there? He should be fighting the Bahtovs and Bydenkos by this point while padding his record with Clevel opposition.
He needs Beck, Ding, Bahtov, Petkovic, Saliffe, and Bydenko....in no particular order, but within the next 15 months.:deal

These young guys in my opinion should be fighting 6 times a year at least, barring injury. That is how they will get better and that is what would make the division better. But instead everybody is now choosing their fights, waiting around, not getting the experience and hoping for some paper title shot to come their way.
If they put in the work and took more fights, it would be better for all of us. Not every fight has to be a huge fight, just fight and get experience and get better. When you then reach the championship level, if you do, then you can fight twice a year, but that should have to be earned.
People can say what they want about Wlad, but he fought around 30 times in his first 3 years as a pro. That's how you get better.

    Inactivity kills.

Stay active no matter the opponent.

you said it:good. its not so much who he is facing, more so facing anyone. Tyson Fury has been more active than him thus gaining more experience.

With only 13 fights fighting a few cans to stay active is excusable so long as he is fighting frequently.

:good Good post. 10X/yr is a little excessive these days, although guys like Szpilka and Mago seem to have that intent if possible, but 4-5/yr is great. Problem is these kids get a trinket, and they're stuck fighting 12rdrs which excuses them from taking meaningful step along 6-10 rd fights.

Seems every damned prospect has to be headlining shows nowadays.:patsch

Calling Clevel fighters cans is not very polite. :-(

Guys like McNuggett, Sexton, etc are not cans. They are journeyman in the least. Once they accept they're not Champion or contender material they allow themselves to become stepping stones and spoilers. Monte Barrett was last generations best. A guy like Dimitrenko may become this generations.

By the time Tyson was 21 he was a world heavyweight champion. 13 bums for a 29yr old is too little.
