silly question. ESB worships Lennox Greatest Fighter Ever ..the comparison of Ali and Tyson is nonsense ...so is the Holmes-Lewis comparison ..compare Lewis and Jesus, yes?
It depends. Do you rate the 90's powerpunchers with little boxing skills or the talented 80's boxers with more skills? Tyson fought a plethora of seasoned boxers with championship experience: Berbick, Smith, Thomas, Holmes, Tubbs, Spinks, Bruno, Williams; tall mobile talent like Tucker and Biggs; dangerous 10 fight KO streak Ruddock twice. All before prison.
complete and utter poppycock, tyson fought his prime years in an era that was just as weak as the one larry holmes fought in. your imbecilic comment lead me to do a little bit of research on your esb career :think you have a vcash total of 75 . . . . . . no readers that is not a mis-print heerko koois genuinely does have a vcash total of just 75 further research revealed that in just over 6 years on esb, you have received just 206 profile views :blood:roflatsch 75 months in total and 206 profile views means that you on average receive less than 3 profile views per month thats less than one view of your profile per week :rofl Its absolutely clear from these statistics that nobody is interested in reading your opinion and that you could write everything you know about boxing on the back of a postage stamp :bart In summary, you are an absolue ****ing disgrace to boxing and you are the proud owner of a giant **** that swings from your hideous 1 metre high forehead :deal
I'm not so sure if it is Lewis. Beating a bunch of old washed up fighters isn't a great thing is it? Hiding in England until all the best fighters were past their prime and Mike Tyson was locked safely in Jail. During that time he fought for a worthless European title. Lewis faced the recovering cocaine addict Tony Tucker who had been out of boxing for 3 years after his loss to Tyson. Tucker was also suspended from boxing after a positive marijuana test. Lewis felt it was the right time to fight Tucker I guess. Lewis also decided to face the HIV positive Tommy Morrison. Next Lennox decided to duck Riddick Bowe and instead face the washed up,mentally unstable Frank Bruno-a fighter who had been KO'd by Mike Tyson in 5 rounds in 1989. It took Lewis 7 rounds to beat Bruno who had been KO'd many times previous to this. Then Lennox fought his best opponent,a former Tyson sparring partner called Oliver McCall who shattered the Lewis chin in half. McCall at the time was drug addicted and only getting worse but he KO'd Lewis in 2 rounds. Lewis waits 3 years to rematch McCall so he could be sure McCall was mentally unstable and more addicted to drugs and alcohol. In fact McCall was in and out of rehab at the time. Then Lennox barely squeaked by Ray Mercer,a guy who was beaten by old Larry Holmes and Holyfield rather easily. Mercer was himself old and past his prime. Lennox refused to give Mercer a rematch despite the fact that Mercer wanted to give the fight proceeds to charity. Lewis was scared. He then refused to fight Tyson in 1996. Shannon Briggs was the Lineal champion after beating a 48 year old George Foreman. Briggs wasn't able to hurt Foreman at all but he almost KO'd Lewis in the first round of their fight! Lennox waited until 1999 to fight the old past prime nearly 40 year old Holyfield who had struggled with guys like Vaughn Bean and young John Ruiz. At this time many people felt like Holyfield should have retired yet Lennox felt it was the right time to fight him. The first fight was a draw although Lewis really won it. The second fight however, should have gone to Holyfield and Holyfield even almost dropped Lewis in round 7! Lennox Lewis had a close hard fight with an old Holyfield! Lewis avoided the Prime Holyfield because he knew he would have been knocked out. In 2000 before he fought Tua,Lewis commented on Mike Tyson saying "Tyson is a ghost of his former self." Lewis put it off for a few more years. Lewis faced Hasim Rahman. Rahman somehow got the title shot by beating a journeyman. Rahman who had previously been KO'd by David Tua and Oleg Maskaev KO'd Lewis with one punch to the chin in 5 rounds. Lewis waited until 2002 to fight the old washed up one punch stalker corpse of Mike Tyson. Before the Tyson fight,Emanuel Steward said Tyson was at least "10 years out of his prime." Tyson at the time was in and out of Jail, also mentally unstable and addicted to drugs and not training hard. It took Lewis 8 rounds to beat Tyson but it took Danny Williams only 4 to do the same thing. In fact Lewis fought scared and cautious against Tyson and held on and clinched many times during the fight-worried that Tyson might have enough energy to load up on one power shot and smash Lewis glass chin. Lennox thought this was the best time to fight Tyson. Then although Lewis beat Vitali by TKO6,backed out of his promise for a rematch and retired. All in all,Lewis was a good fighter but was very lucky and certainly a cautious cherry picker with a shaky chin.
Lewis has some notable names on his resume, but all in all quality wise not much better then the guys Tyson beat in the 80's. You can mark off Tyson as a pointless win. Ditto for Vitali Klitchsko, he didn't 'win' that fight. Holyfield was totally washed up, Tua was a good win. From there your left with names like Mercer, Mccall, Bruno, Golota etc. which aren't any better then the guys Tyson beat. You also forgot to put Golota on Tyson's resume. Here's a more comparable list of meaningful wins: Tyson Spinks Holmes Berbick Tucker Bruno x2 Tubbs Ruddock x2 Thomas Golota Lewis Holyfield Mercer Morrison McCall Mason Mavrovic Golota Briggs Rahman Tua
The win over Tyson doesn't count for anything, it's got about as much credibility, if not less, than say Calzaghe's win over Roy Jones or Mcbride's win over Tyson.
Take your nationalistic agenda out of this thread you douchebag atsch Based purely on fighters faced you could make a legitimate argument for Tyson as it would be fairly close, but if we're doing it based on their record then Lewis wins hands down.
:happy I remember watching it live. Really everyone should have known when we remember how Grant was heavily put down by Golota, yet the hype machines just talked about how he got up when Golota seemed to let him off atsch. You can see it happening all over again now with the current American HW hype machines being built up fighting nobodies, only to step into the tough European class and find themselves wanting
