scribe Chris Mannix is reporting via Twitter this evening that James “Lights Out” Toney has been pulled from a card on September 8 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey that would have seen him fighting a headline Polish Pay Per View match against Tomasz Adamek.

The bout has been widely criticized in the boxing press as a total mismatch between a current heavyweight contender and a long-past-his-prime and possibly brain-damaged 43-year-old fighter who owes over $350,000 in back taxes to the California State government.

Toney didn’t help his case when he videotaped an obscenity-laced YouTube segment in which he threatened to go the ESPN offices and attack boxing scribe Dan Rafael, who criticized the Toney-Adamek match-up.

So far, no official reason has been given for the Toney cancellation. Boxing Insider will update this story as details become available.

Actually Elie Seckbach just helped Toney lose a fight, because Main Events doesn't want the kind of publicity that Toney was bringing them.

They were nuts to even consider him in the first place.

james toney was a great fighter in his prime and he is a very man but i don't want to see him fight anymore because he could get hurt bad. Too many boxers fight too late in there career and the sad thing is they pays the price eg: Ali and Jerry Quarry. I don't want that that to happen to James

Unfortunately, like Holyfield, Toney has blown his money and owes $350,000 to the government, so he'll keep trying to find somebody to fight him.

It's apparent that people would rather James Toney die in the gutter from poverty than risk getting hurt in the ring. Suddenly everyone gives a **** about his health, but of course no one gives a **** about his finances.

I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed to make the fight. He got medically cleared, and he does have a heavyweight title.

Yeah but by denying him big fights idiots claiming they want to protect his health are putting his health at much greater risk because now he has to fight even more fights overall.

****ing idiots are illogical and irrational if they think this protects James Toney. He's not able to retire if he owes the IRS so he has to fight one way or the other, so his so called fans have just forced him to fight even more.

Don't you read? He owes the IRS money. He cannot retire PERIOD.

And people like you have costed him a big fight which would have helped him retire sooner. Now he has to fight a lot of little fights to pay back the IRS.

Some people here are just irrational idiots. The fight probably wouldn't have made James Toney a fortune but come on, the more you cut him off from big fights the more little fights he has to take.
