martinez could have kept his title if he chose to fight zibik off of hbo. he chose to roll with hbo.

Bull****, HBO is a TV network not a boxing promotion company, they cant deter a fighter from fighting whoever he wants, all they can do is to refuse to broadcast his fights, which is exactly what they did to Sergio

And for all you who ***** because HBO refused Martinez-Zbik but was OK with Chavez-Zbik, keep in mind Chavez is a huge draw.

Chavez could have fought a taco vendor picked off the street that night and still would have been a bigger draw than Sergio and generated more ratings for HBO. It was a business decission by HBO plain and simple, no need to get into conspiracy theories here.

 

You dont get it, if Martinez really cared that much about the belt he could have fought Zbik out of HBO, Zbik was the mandatory, he KNEW they were going to strip him if he didn't defend against him, and he STILL prefered to fight Dzinziruk for a bigger payday and to please his HBO masters,

so Chavez ain't lying when he says Martinez gave up the title for money

The only way the WBC has screwed Sergio so far, is by not giving him the title shot at Chavez earlier, since that trinket ¨emeritus diamond¨ belt he won against Dzinziruk supposedly gives him a direct shot at the title, but that's it.

TV networks sign fighters for tv related stuff and that's it, they can ban a fighter from appearing on their tv channels, or another company's tv channels, but they cant prevent a fighter from fighting an opponent of his choice. They can ¨suggest¨ opponents, but the fighter has the last word. Ofc, from a business p.o.v, going against his TV network is one of the worst things a boxer or any type of athlete or entertainer can do, so very few would dare to do it.

 

Who gives a ****. They've finally agreed to fight eachother now. That's all that matters.
