Exactly correct - but as a sidenote this conversation has revealed that a shocking number of people DON'T understand that to be the case.

If there weren't trinkets on the line, it would be a farce for it to beyond 10.

Oh yeah, I mean if nothing's on the line then 10 rounds is fair according to the rules. But it just seems kinda odd that it's a 10 round fight, if some irrevelent titles are on the line... I mean surely a main event fight with some pretty big buzz surrounding it should be 12 :think

I guess that it was inevitable that this thing was to become a complete circus.

You see plenty of 12 rounders with nothing on the line. . . Or at least the "silver" belts or whatever

12 rounds should be the standard for a big fight, title notwithstanding.

It's obvious Haye made a ***** move and threatened to pull out unless 10 rounds.

No, not plenty. It happens, but quite rarely. Pay closer attention. Just because there isn't a world title on the line doesn't mean there isn't some bull**** minor belt. There really ought to be something, or else it needn't include the championship rounds - no matter how anticipated the bout or high-profile the participants.

    Wrong.

Devon Alexander's last two bouts against Maidana and Matthysse were big deals, and were both rightly 10-rounders.

That I don't disagree with. :yep

And if he insisted on 10 rounds even with it being for some intercontinental titles, then he's a huge ***** diva...which we already knew..

Over on the British Forum, somebody with a contact at the UKAD is indicating that the choice of 10 versus 12 rounds might be related to the avoidance of PED testing. Maybe a loophole in conjunction with the fact of Lux sanctioning as opposed to BBoC sanctioning?

After all that lip service by Haye and Booth about drug testing and "untested champions aren't clean champions" during the presser?

I edited my statement to say "fights that include minor titles." I know Alexander's last two fights have been 10 rounders, but that doesn't make it right, or mean it SHOULD be the norm. . . Wasn't Floyd's fight with Marquez completely unsanctioned by any kind of championship title? Pretty sure Mosley/Mayweather had absolutely nothing on the line as well.

I just think 12 rounders should be the norm for big time fights. . . Whether or not they are, I guess it depends. . .

But yeah, Haye's mental midgetry, and diva-attitude were certainly behind this fight being 10 rounds.

I don't believe anything that David says. When he opens his mouth, there's an equal chance that the truth will come out, a half-truth will come out or a bold-face lie will come out. The guy could well be pathological.

    IMO, Booth is worse.

If any of this is true, they are just the pair to put the show on at the presser, while pulling the opposite strings behind the scenes,

I think it is right, and should be the norm. :conf

Championship distance is championship distance. It isn't "star power distance" or "buzz worthy distance".

Neither should have been IMO. Both should have been 10.

Strongly disagree. Who's to say what's "big time"? Highly subjective. What gets one person excited, another might not care about. Big stars in one country can be unknown in others. Having a title at stake, that's a concrete objective metric by which to say "this ought to go the extra couple of championship frames."

They're both really creepy, and worse together.

During the whole time they were exchanging barbs with Chisora from across that lattice (wtf was up with that, anyway??) it just seemed like they had this terrible homoerotic tension between them, as though they couldn't wait to get away from all those lights and people and have an intense snog.

Ortiz vs Lopez was 12 rounds for the vacant silver belt. There is no reason for Haye-Chisora to be 10 unless one of the them negotiated that as they felt it gives them an advantage (cough Haye cough). There are "belts" on the line.

It's bull**** IB. 30,000 live fans, millions watching around the world, the fight should be 12.

If there are belts on the line (and it doesn't matter how trivial they are) then you are correct, there is no reason for it to be 10.

You're right, but for the wrong reasons.

It has nothing to do with "30,000 live fans, millions watching around the world" and everything to do with " There are "belts" on the line." THAT'S why it's bull**** for it to be 10.

    I hope this is a rumour/mistake mentioned.

    I really do.
