I suppose, but I just think most fans are clueless about the meanings of all these titles, and that a big fight, is a big fight, is a big fight (there's some objectivity there as well - "how many people are going to the fight live"? "what is the overall anticipation from majority of boxing fans, casual, and hardcore") . . . Fans just deserve 12 rounds of action for fights of this magnitude, and it should be the boxer's responsibility to make them 12 rounds.
looks like it's true. . . Whether or not Haye nego'd for it, well, that's speculation, but I think it's pretty safe to assume it's his doing. . One of the main factors in this fight, from my stance, was Chisora's good stamina, and Haye's poor stamina. . . and what would happen if he couldn't get Chisora out of there after 6,7 rounds. This pretty much confirms Haye will be looking to potshot, and move all night to a UD. . .
So any 10 rounder that I feel is important, or draws a big enough gate, I can say "this ought to be 12 rounds!! :cus" ? No, man. Big fight does not automatically = 12 rounds. Gotta get that out of your head. 10 rounds max unless something is on the line. Everybody needs to stop acting like 10 rounders have some stigma on them, like it's disrespectful to a fighter to participate in one. If he doesn't have a belt and isn't challenging for one, then he's receiving the utmost respect by fighting in a 10-rounder. Things like Mayweather vs. Marquez were MISTAKES, and set a bad precedent.
Important as in, headlines a big show. Other than Alexander fights in StL, just about every HBO headliner (not to mention ppv) is 12 rounds. What other counterexamples can you think of?
Eh, I would disagree. . . I just feel that certain fights without anything on the line are worthy of being 12-rounders. As real fans, we shouldn't feel the need to subscribe to the "prestigious championship fights" (when most are in fact, not prestigious championship fights at all). . . Belts are meaningless these days, with the exception of a few instances where legitimate lineage can be traced. I congratulate Mayweather for making the fight 12 rounds, as he understood the magnitude of the fight, and how many people were going to be paying money to see it.
I don't know, probably a decent number. How about Sergio PWill 1, or a whole bunch of Hopkins fights?
Cameron/Barrett was 12 rounds because it was for the "WBO Oriental HW title," and the "WBO Asia Pacific Title." Lol, before that, he fought a 12 rounder against 13-2 Dominic Vea for the prestigious Commonwealth (British Empire) Cruiseweight title. . . We can't co-sign the sanciotning bodies by giving more significance, and credence to these meaningless, "title" fights. . . IMO, 12 rounds = "championship LEVEL" fight, NOT "championship" fight, because that term has been ****, and pissed on so much. . This content is protected :cus
How can it be only 10 rounds? - both high profile fighters - shown on many continents - it's the main event - had 24/7 type show - most anticipated hw fight of the year
but, that's my whole point, the question of whether a fight is 10 or 12 rounds should have nothing to do with prestige, and only to do with whether it's a title bout or not. You need to separate the two issues in your mind. It isn't that I think all title bouts (including bogus minor titles) are prestigious, obviously they aren't. Not all championship matches are superfights. Not all superfights are championship matches. Not all 12-rounders are superfights. Not all superfights are 12-rounders. Get it? # of rounds (at least when it's a question of 10 or 12) has nothing to do with prestige. Understand? They're EQUALLY prestigious. They're both the highest level of the sport. 10 rounds simply means there is no addendum for the sake of a title - any title, doesn't matter how minor - being on the line. Rounds 11 and 12 are add-ons, and should only be added on if there's a title at stake.
No, that is BULL****. Who the **** gets to decide what is "championship level"??? That is so arbitrary and subjective. It's either a championship fight or it isn't. Very cut and dry, black and white issue. It doesn't mean that big, important non-title bouts are somehow "lesser" for being 10. You need to stop viewing it as a slight or something disrespectful. There is nothing wrong with 10 rounds for a big fight. Going 10 instead of 12 doesn't mean it isn't important. It just means there is no alphabet org belt involved.
Guess what? The ring is a small ring and THAT favors Dereck. Sorry Haye fans! Looks like that corn row fool is still gonna get ****ed.
:yep If he gets busted it will be like when Berto said "We must take the tests! :rant" to Ortiz...and then failed the test. atsch
