no its not racist if coming from another black guy. its equivalent to calling him a house negro.

Virgil is simply trying to get in Chad's head and make him feel like hes less of a man.

lol Ward aint no saint, he from the hood, hes used to people talking **** like that i know he got jokes and can talk some trash too.

besides, we all know Dawson is a mental midget.

but yeah, those type of insults can really get under your skin if u let them. looked like Dawson kept his composure like he should.

For some reason this type of stuff always gets to me  and I've got plenty of favorite athletes who are/were flamboyant, arrogant, etc. so you know that's not what it is and the reasons for why are obvious as it pertains to the build-up of a marquee fight. Lot of times though, it always feels like there's an outline of truthful feelings when they say this type of **** to eachother, as if you can't be black and just a naturally humble, laid-back personality and your own man without being some type of uncle tom or 'house negro' -- Take Barry Sanders for instance (The Greatest and Slickest Athlete of the 20th century :yep :deal) -- Never once talked **** about anybody, never danced or shook his ass after a touchdown score, rejected endorsements and personal accolades -- Is he an Uncle Tom or just a naturally humble dude who couldn't give a **** less about people's perception of him? :think

What Virgil Hunter was saying wasn't racist and I'm sure that he wasn't trying to insult Dawson either. As a Black man, having a White man doing all of your talking while you do all of the actual work doesn't look good. It's an image that makes him look like a house slave in a sense. Dawson is the brawn, but Shaw is the brain. Hunter was basically challenging him to speak up for himself, because this image makes Dawson look docile, stupid and weak.

I don't think that he's any of those things myself. I happen to think that Dawson is just a quiet person who probably doesn't like to talk much. With that being said, I can definitely see how some Black people would take the opposite stance and see it the way Hunter did. It doesn't really matter if it had anything to do with race or not, Dawson does need to do his own talking. For some people, the fact that he's Black and the other guy is White just makes it look worse.

nope. i dont agree with Virgils statements. those type of comments are fighting words when it comes to black people. one of the worst insults is trying to call a grown man a slave.

Chad is not a talker, we all know this. seems to be mind games to me. its not racist but its definately offensive

I can admire both sides... Some of my favorite athletes of all-time are Barry Bonds, Randy Moss, Charles Barkley, Floyd, T.O. -- I think it's hilarious how bad they get people off their hinges and do whatever they want and **** on the standard. People do hate them because they're black. And there are some fake-ass do no wrong, corporate america types, but this topic always bothers for the example I made above because if we're doing blind narrowing, he'd be Uncle Tom category and that's not what it is at all. :-(

    :deal Great Post by Hands.

I guess I don't get why some people say it's 'ok.

I honestly felt that Virgil meant it, but I could be very wrong. The way he said it, not even like a Mike Tyson rage out burst, but all laid back and smug really felt like he meant what he said and truthfully believed in what he said.

I don't feel he is saying it to 'promote' the fight or 'get under' Chad's skin, I feel like he said it because he's a big jerk
    :(

    big jerk bully virgil

    pretty much.
i doubt he was very serious. but who knows, hes an old school cat, so u know hes not afraid to speak his mind. and probably was a black panther back in the day or some ****. they originated in Oakland so who knows.

i dont think he meant much harm. these type of insults are nothing new.

Yea man this is an insult. African Americans and plantation in the same sentence it greatly offends them. I'm sure tho there might be apologies alil later. Anything to hype up the fight, right?:D

Race baiting at it's finest. Any black person would be furious hearing that and that is to the benefit of Ward. Ward is of mixed ancestry.

Ward calls himself the Son Of God. That could probably be seen as racist in itself.
