Would you be surprised if Vanes beat Lara?

    Because I think he's got a great chance to beat Lara. I'm actually favoring him slightly. I think Vanes have been underrated around here, whereas Lara may be slightly overrated.

    Forget that fact that Vanes is being avoided by Canelo, and you may hate him, but he does have skills. He's deceptively fast and throws a good arsenal of punches. His straight right hand is particularly sharp and fast down the middle, a good weapon against a southpaw like Lara.

    He's also got a good left hook to the liver. Lara is actually vulnerable to that punch because he has extends his arms too much when he's guarding. Watch his fights and you see the left side of his body open for hooks.

    Lara lost to Molina and that's no fluke. I don't believe Lara is that good. He's got amateur habits and he's not active enough. If Vanes fights at a faster pace, which he does, while actively throwing the right hand and left hook to the body, he'll beat Lara.

    As you said he has a great straight right and I like a lot the right cross that will cause plenty of trouble for Lara who is lefty.

    Skip to the 5 minute park and see his style against 2 different southpaw. It's pretty damn effective. His straight right is fast and they're thrown in combinations.

    He also spars Chavez Jr. at the 8 minute mark.

    If we are really talking Vanes beating Lara, then yes I would be pretty surprised.
    If we are talking Vanes staying on his feet and getting the decision, then no, that wouldn't surprise mme at all

    Yea, we're talking about Vanes beating Lara, as in winning a fair decision, as in maybe scoring a TKO in the later rounds.

    I would be very surprised. Those two southpaws that Vanes busted up in the vid up top are nothing compared to the skill level of Lara.

    Not only that but Lara has been staying active while I can't even remember the last time Vanes has fought.

    I wouldn't really be surprised. Both are professionals and Vanes was a fairly decorated amateur. It wouldn't blow my mind, but I would be happy that it would bring people a little down to earth about Lara.

    I'd be very surprised. I don't rate Vanes particularly highly and I think Lara is faster (of hand and foot), with a better defence and a superior skill-set.

    Lara can get a little lazy and coast through fights, so he's always likely to drop a few rounds but I think he's a class above Vanes.

    Against Chavez, he reminded me of a great quote by Eubank. He said something like : don't have a specific style, be able to adapt to what's in front of you. If the guy is leaning in, throw the uppercut. If his left hand is low, throw a straight right... etc.

    I would be slightly surprised. Vanes is a very good fighter. He pretty much has it all. I don't see a lot of fighters in the division beating him. The only thing that kinda worries me for his sake is the Ouma fight. If he looks like that against Lara, he is going to lose a wide decision. I think Lara will be able to adapt to whatever Martirosyan brings.

    Oh by the way TS. Molina didn't beat Lara. That seems to be the only thing negative that people can say about Lara I guess, but it's false. If you think Molina beat Lara, then Ouma definitely beat Vanes.
