Don't know about Kahn, but seeing as Doughboy weighed in at 247, I don't think Haye has anything to worry about.

That is the key. Boxing specific training will build stamina. Put the rounds in during sparring, hit the bag, hit the pads. A long distance run does not replicate the dynamics of a boxing match. If anything, you change the dynamics of your run for example do interval training, vary your pace, combination of steady and explosive. Like in a fight you aren't just gonna box at one pace, you're gonna mix it up, so why not mix it up in your training.

The only benefit I can see in a distance run/road work is to cut weight. But it's not the only way to cut weight.

I think roadwork is important but it's not the be all and end all. I know a lot of guys with legendary stamina did do roadwork but also did a hell of a lot of sparring. Roadwork is a tad overrated. I always used to find that hard sparring was what improved my stamina most, not roadwork, especially if it was hard and against someone who brought the fight. IMO stamina is something that is quite a bit in the head i.e. you have to learn to relax and not be tense in the ring as well as tricks to buy rest time, like feinting to stop the other guy doing **** and make him tentative.

Roadwork builds up basic leg stamina yes, and it has its place and I would always do some. But I would emphasise sparring more because it replicates a fight better. I mean a fight is fought at varying pace and with all sorts going on. I know that sometimes guys do 15 rounds with 5 different sparring partners with only 30 second breaks between rounds. Lennox Lewis used to do that apparently though I have no solid evidence. I know Frazier used to take part in vicious gym wars for hours on end and look at his stamina. I think chopping trees and pulling cars ala George Foreman is pretty sick for stamina too. It does depend a lot on the person. A lot of the very powerful punchers in boxing history who put a lot behind their shots lacked stamina. Shavers and Foreman were good examples. Foreman in particular learnt how to pace and relax if he didn't bang a guy out early. Someone like Frazier was a freak of nature. It really does depend a lot. Haye apparently gets shin splints from running by the way.

I always avoided roadwork when I was training

Maybe that's why my stamina was **** and couldn't last more than 5 rounds in sparring

Roadwork is a traditional essential, but with the hitech gym equipment nowadays that works and measures cardio, who says a big guy should pound the roads screwing up their knees.
I personally did a lot of roadwork as i 'enjoyed' it, in as much as i knew i had got those miles under my belt, my mentality was the no pain no gain traditionalist viewpoint, which worked for me.
