They come together in the middle of the ring and whip out a fierce exchange that sends Jimenez backing into a corner. Rivera jumps in and SNAPS HIS HEAD with an uppercut as well as a straight combo. Jimenez is trying to load up on big hail mary rights, but Rivera is calmly walking forward, picking shots off, and landing VERY cleanly. Jimenez is taking some serious licks here. Rivera is patient, only throwing when in range and with the best look possible as Jimenez is either opening up or dropping his hands to back up. Uppercut to the body by Rivera. Jimenez is jumping in and throwing shots down at Rivera's head but leading with his own. He complains about the head clashes but gets told off by the ref since he's initiating them. Big series of counters by Rivera. Heavy thudding slapping hook by Jimenez.

Round 11

Jimenez is dancing around the ring, literally running and dropping low to weave when Rivera steps in close to throw a lead. Strange. This was the crude bruising "power puncher" of the early rounds, and now he's gotten totally cute. Rivera gambles with some uppercuts jumping in and takes some leather but is able to bang Jimenez with right hands up close and make him tie up (leading to more head bumps) or back away. Rivera is pushing him back consistently, and not even throwing punches. All mind games. A few feints. Uppercut by Rivera, pushing Jimenez to the ropes. Jimenez answers back stuffing a few right hands into Rivera's face but with little on them. BIG right hand to the face by Rivera, snapping Jimenez's head back.

Round 12

Big shots by Jimenez!! Just clapping away with his left low and right high. Rivera shoulders into him and grinds him into the ropes until the referee splits them up. Rivera stretches out his left arm and flutters the jab into Jimenez's face. Uppercuts traded back and forth as Rivera shoves Jimenez to the ropes. Clinch. Break. Jimenez fires several right hands to the head up close and misses as Rivera ducks against him. Big counter uppercut by Rivera. Jimenez lands a few short punches to the face as Rivera hangs inside, but is tagged with jabs and uppers with torque on them and backed up. Rivera ducks in against Jimenez, getting slapped with rabbit punches, and muscles him back to the ropes. Double jab, right hand, left hook by Jimenez, just throwing like mad. BIG UPPERCUT BY RIVERA at the final bell. Legal shot, but barely.

Crazy. Early on I never would have guessed that Rivera would be the (probable) winner. It just didn't look like he could handle Jimenez's power, despite obviously having better skills.

By the end it was him rocking and chasing Jimenez.

Angel Esau Molina vs. Guillermo Medina, 6 rounds @ light welterweight

 

Round 1

Molina gets his jab going while circling low to the left. Medina is mirroring his actions but always a step slower. Molina gets off with his right hand and then pulls back out of the way of Medina's. More jabs landed by Molina. Medina already has redness around the eye and bridge of his nose. Molina is able to turn himself to the side, leap in and land a jab while still easily dodging Medina's counters as he leaves the scene of the crime. Pretty clear discrepancy in timing and sharpness. Medina is dropping lots of forearm on Molina's gloves, and getting jabbed in the body.

Big left hook by Molina, stunning Medina and sending him reeling back. Moments later a BIG LEFT HOOK BY MEDINA DROPS MOLINA!! WTF, where did that come from?!? Molina gets up and starts firing jabs to the throat and right hands to the cheek. Medina throws his own shots in mimicry. Trading, landing cleanly both ways. OHHHH! Right hand, left hook - Molina down again!! He beats the count and is back into the scrum getting rocked around by wide hooks!!
