The defining factor in my eyes is Wards physical strength. He may not pack the biggest punch but, generally he is very strong for his sort of build and is able to dominate Ottke on the inside. Ward UD 116-112

 

Calzaghe and Kessler would win 120-108 over Ottke. Let's be honest.

So there is no reason to think Ottke beats Ward.

Sure Ward and Ottke are fairly similar in many things (home town advantage every fight, buying refs, and a lot of holding, holding and hitting and so on) but Ward is bigger and stronger too.

And Ottke arguably lost to Larsen and several other fighters. So even with all his dirty tricks Ottke really lost fights. Ward is very dirty but at least can 'win' when being dirty. Ottke was dirty but could hardly win even with all those tricks.

 

Ward would kill Ottke. Mundine nearly beat Ottke in only his tenth fight he just burned himself out. Looking at how a much better version of Mundine faired against Kessler then seeing what Ward did to Kessler there is no doubt Ward would beat Ottke . In a nuetral setting of course , with an impartial ref, not one who was iin Sven's pocket.

Ottke six wins by ko, thirty UD by Ref and judges (all probably from Berlin).
Mundine pushed Ottke to his limit in his tenth pro fight! and he had only been fighting for 18 months. Ward is far superior to Mundine at his best/prime when he beat Danny Green.

With a proper impartial ref and judges he would whoop Ottke. That Reid fight is a disgrace to boxing. Ottke should have held up Reid's hand at the end of the fight. Even that South Korean guy who 'beat' Roy Jones at the 1988 Olympics had the decency to do that at the end of the fight!
