whilst what you say is undeniably true (except by the Zaghehuggers, we all know who they are), being a long term champ who could beat allcomers apart from RJJ, Bernard and possibly Robin Reid in rematch and maybe Kessler in Denmark, and Dawson and Froch when he was older, is still not a bad feat.Is it so shameful to be unable to beat prime Roy and Bernard? I dont think its so bad.

We are basically looking at a 43-3 or 43-4 record in reality and without the protection for Calzaghe, maybe with an extra draw or two which is still good oats.

ok i agree his 46-0 is a peice of **** protected, but in reality it would only have contained a max of 3 or 4 defeats. Still respectable.

    Hi Loudon,

I don't see why you've gone on a tirade about why Joe didn't face Roy, we've discussed it before and you seemed to agree that the fight wasn't meant to happen because of Roy moving up to HW. Some of the opposition Roy faced around that time was terrible, and you're saying that Joe didn't warrant a shot at Roy? There are more similarities in their careers than you realise, they share many of the same criticisms.

    ????????
Is that why Calzaghe ignored Dibella's offer to fight on a Jones's card back in 1999?

    http://archives.tcm.ie/irishexaminer/1999/01/15/fshead.htm

Most of Calzaghe's title defenses were against terrible opposition

peersonally i'd rate Calzaghe over Vitali Klitscho, although they both faced a HUGE body of **** opposition at least Calzaghe beat them all. Even **** opponents are not easy to beat consecutively for ten years.

Where's the proof that he ignored or refused an offer? You've just provided a quote from Lou Dibella where's he contemplating the possibility of the winner of Calzaghe-Collins fighting Jones. Collins retired instead of facing Calzaghe anyway because he was unwell, so you've proved nothing

    ??????????
Collins needed to get a belt and fight on a Jones undercard to generate interest for a future Jones fight, because at that time there was no interest, with Collins pulling out the door was then open for Calzaghe to go and fight on a Jones undercard. No one knew who Calzaghe was back then. His own promoter admits that Calzaghe refused to fight in the states

Why would he defend his title in America for less money?

Joe wasn't ready for Jones in 1999, the fight would have been good in 2002-2003 just before Jones moved up to fight Ruiz. Around this time, Joe agreed to go to the states to fight Hopkins, who pulled out demanding more money, leading the fight to fall through.

"A teleconference was set up in my office in New York for July 30th, 2002, and on the call was myself, Don King who was in the room, Frank ****** and Bernard Hopkins' lawyer, Arnold Joseph. Along with Arnold was a woman named Linda Carter, who was there on behalf of Bernard. We asked Arnold if Bernard wanted to fight Joe Calzaghe and we asked him how much money would he want if he did. The response we got was $3million and the fight would have to take place in the United States. After a little scratching of the head, we said 'Okay, done.' Frank ****** agreed on the spot, Don King agreed and we agreed so as far as we were concerned all parties were singing off the one hymm sheet. Arnold excused himself with Linda and I can only assume it was to call Bernard. Either that day or the next day, they came with a new demand: $6million, double the sum that had been agreed, the deal blew up.....he had then and still has no desire to fight Joe Calzaghe, that much is pretty clear.

Joe gets criticised sometimes for not having fought the big-name Americans, but in this case the fault has never rested with him."

Because you have to do things like that to make big fights
    According to who?
Dibella was talking about the fight back in 1999
Calzaghe was still unknown in America in 2002-2003 and it should be pointed out that he was solely to blame for that

Dibella was talking about the fight back in 1999, what has a proposed fight with Hopkins in 2003 got to do with anything?
