Tough call. I say he gets in. Not only for being a consummate professional but fighting the best of the best out there. ps. 2004 USA Today Fighter of the Year 2004 RING Magazine Fighter of the Year Former IBF & Ring Light Heavyweight champion
People forget Johnson beat a lot of fighters in their prime and always went to the opponent backyard to fight.
I'd put him in. if his debatable losses were actually victories, he would be a shoo-in. He did what not many of today's fighters do: didn't take easy fights, fought great opposition, and traveled to the backyards' of his opponents. Today's generation of fans see his record, with 17 losses, and automatically discount him. He could have taken the easy route building up a padded record against no-names like a lot of protected 'P4P list' fighters often do , but he chose not to and should be credited. He will be much more appreciated as the years go by, and will fondly be remembered as a true fighter and 'Road Warrior.'
I respect the hell out of Johnson, but no. He's not a HOF caliber fighter, never has been, and hasn't had the social impact/popularity to compensate for it. There's a good number of better fighters than Johnson that haven't gotten in. If there was a Hall of Very Good, that's where he should end up.
He's around the same caliber of LH as guys like Eddie Mustapha Muhammad and Marvin Johnson. Both of those guys have yet to be inducted, so I think he might have to wait a while, too. Road Warrior was really good. But with the exception of 2004, he wasn't great, and one year probably isn't enough to get you in any time soon.
No, Glen Johnson is not even close, in my opinion. Johnson has too many losses, and not enough good wins to offset it.
Nope. I like the guy, but can't do it and he isn't popular enough like say a Stallone or Gatti was to compensate his wins with adding to the sport.
