it wasn't a lucky shot. more and more fighters look to the floor when flinging shots, the other fighters don't expect it

Khan will not learn, watch his sparring for this fight, it was awful. he learnt nothing from the Peterson fight.

Once the headache has gone he will blame "lucky punches", the referee, a bloke in a hat at ringside and whatever else he can think of.

  3. Yep. So ****ing frustrating to watch him. I've only really been watching boxing for a few years, so my opinion could be way off, but he drove me up the bloody wall tonight.

The guy is jammy enough to have been blessed with some ridiculous attributes, but he just totally wastes them. OK, he took a decent shot, but made it to the end of the round. FFS come out, pop the jab, keep Garcia at distance and feel your way back into the fight. What does he do? Goes toe to toe and just throws wild shots until he gets clocked again. Christ. Idiot.

  4. You can actually see his brain go. The second he gets hurt he just tries to wade in, to show he's a tough *******. I know everyone loves Freddie but surely Khan's trainer should have put paid to that kind of attitude by now.

I'am not the boxing expert like many on this section are, but when I was watching Khan in sparring during the pre-show dear, I smelt trouble. Even a slow casual would know he looked awful. He was consistently getting caught on the way out with the left hook and he carried that on in this fight.

Not convinced with Kell Brooks power, but he should be able to smoke Khan in boxing skill (Angles, angles, angles) and ring IQ alone. That is if Khan should continue, which he shouldn't imo. I laughed at the idea of him at moving up to 147. Call me what you will, but does moving up in weight usually mean you end up generally fighting heavier hitters?

No ring IQ, no defense, no adaptability, no chin = retire.

I am starting to change my mind about Roach, he must be a genius to have got Amir a world title.

People whinging about Garcia looking at the floor whilst throwing the left hook. Is that not called tucking your chin in??

Something Amir never does when throwing punches!

You are correct but I think Khan was really very hurt. His brain wasn't working properly and reverted to type. He was finished after that giant left hook in r3.

I thought he took Maidana`s shots pretty well, the lad can bang a bit and although hurt Khan took them, held on and fired back.I was to be honest expecting what we saw tonight in that fight even though Maidana looked a weight below Khan
Anyway you are right its a long road back and every guy he faces is going to fancy the job.I would go for Brook if I were him,Khan has nothing to lose in that fight and it would if nothing else give him a decent goodbye purse.
I think he beats Brook but what do I know I thought tonights fight would end the way it did but the other way round.

There was nothing flukey about Garcia's left hook, it's his best punch and he threw it as a counter every time Khan stepped in to throw his right. His head was down anticipating Khan's right.

Correct me if i'm wrong but when Sergio Martinez KO'd Paul Williams in stunning fashion I am sure I remeber him looking downwards or straight infront but not directly at Williams???

KO of the Year wasn't it?

not when your leaning forward and looking at your opponents shoes, your meant to keep your eyes on the opponent to see the punches coming

but then, that's the risk you take, they'll have difficulty telling where the next punch is coming from as well

I am no fan of Amir but I respect his skills as a boxer. He's had a bad night but- he is still a quality boxer. Admittedly a quality fighter with some things to learn like "how to hide your chin" and " bobbing and weaving for juniors" or " Oh ****, I'm in trouble, let's just block the Power shots with my face"
But I suspect, like you or I, we will never be able to claim to have been a world champion.
I suspect that he couldnt really think that he is intellectually deficient(the several high quality thumps to the skull would account for this), but he is still a world class boxer.
It doesnt matter that he became a world champ with a suspect chin. He was a world champ; and all the greater for that.
