He doesn't take a great shot. Bt the bigger issue is that he takes so many big shots. He took more tonight than floyd has in his career. The gulf in class is enormous. All the old khan weaknesses came back. Looking past his opponent etc. Shame really but not surprising
his career is ****ed. but a proud guy that he is, all the hate and humiliation hes getting he will attempt a comeback guaranteed. he will drop tabares firstly and eat humble pie and get ariza back for a 2nd time. if he doesnt do that - he wont get back to the top thats for sure. im not blaming tabres for this loss, just that ariza really understood amirs body and understood what he needed to do to get amir to increase his resistance. his legs are weak and that where khans problems start. he will always have shaky whiskers but if his legs were like pacquiao he'd have more control of his body when he would get shaken up. also, moving up in weight might help him like it did cotto. its the same thing that people said after prescott, can he survive in a higher division with bigger harder punchers? i think it would give him more chance to put weight on in his legs and less draining out might give him more ability to resist bambi effect. another move he needs to make - is stay away from long drawn out training - going to philipines, then uk and then america does not help him. he needs freddy to be 100% behind him and not play 2nd fiddle to pacman. obviously freddy wont drop pacman, so amir might need to drop freddy - as its not like khan listens to what roach teaches him anyway. his main benefit in wildcard was his sparring but even then he wasnt exposed to what he felt tonight. IMO, he should stay in britain, fight an easy comeback fight in a small venue relitively quickly, then take on a domestic challenger like maybe brook at 147. he needs to target a belt at 147. he can certainly can get a belt from one of the guys at 147 but he will forever here taunts from the opposition about his chin and that he cant trade etc. just because they know his ego wont allow him not to do that. and that will play into all of his opponents hands. in a way, khan must learn once and for all - he should just fight a safe fight behind his jab. his handspeed nad footspeed along with his heart is elite level. his ring intelligence and foot movement is domestic club level at best. can khan change after all these years - probably not - but he can certainly become champ again, there are enough trinkets around and enough paper champs. if he is really brave which i think he is, he might even tempt garcia into a rematch at 140 for a 60/40 split in favout of garcia.
Khan would go into the Brook fight with nothing to lose,he has made a load of money anyway and the fight would sell in the UK big time.Career wise a win over Brook would not cause too many ripples and a loss really is the end.Its not a fight I see happening, but Im usually wrong so give it about a month and it will be getting announced at a presser.
Khan is nothing special as a professional and that has been obvious for a long time. Pterson would have beaten him again as would the elite level fighters. To beat Garcia all he needed to do was box from the outside and at range but he could not do this and fell into Garcia's power left hook.
He needs to switch trainers. He should go to FMS and get his defence sorted. Amir has become too macho for his own good anyway.
Do you want to see him killed or what? I don't think it's working out with Roach, for me Freddie spreads his non-Pac time too thinly across his other fighters. That's especially key when you've got a project like Khan, who isn't smart enough to take it what he's learned one day and apply it the next, he needs constant drilling. Not sure FMS is right though, I really think Emanuel Steward would be the best person. He'd break Khan's style down in the same way he did with Wlad (and Lewis to a lesser extent) and piece together a more effective formula. The problem with Khan is that he's so easy to hit and can't take a shot - Wlad's defence is very good and his chin is alright-ish. Sanders and Brewster could flatten most people in fairness.
Trainers is not the issue, he fought defensively sound v Kotelnik and that was with Roach. Khans issues his state of mind and there is very little any trainer can do. Amazing skills coupled with a SEN brain = getting knocked out.
anyone here mallignaggi on the radio commentary. check griffs vids in the sticky. he mentions a good point, no one including roach warned khan what garcia was trying to do. he was punching with him to time him first two rounds, he then went to the body... and then he unleashed that left hook.... but, the fact roach nor anyone else didnt tell khan to adjust or change up his rythm cost him. im not saying even if he was told it would make a differance, but khan with his lack of intelligence needs to be prodded and told to adjust his gameplan. to be honest, even if khan gets the best defensive coach in the world he wont listen to him, thats why i dont think roach himself is that important - wildcard sparring is and so is arriza.
Thought freddie should have pulled him out before the ref stopped it. It was clear after the first punch it was effectively over. For a young lad who has already had a few wars and a KO, he could have benefited from being saved for another day.
