If you think about it peeps... Khan just doesn't listen... he was doing fine until he thought 'hey i'm gonna trade with this guy toe to toe'. Hit and move. 1-2 role out LOL.

This is pretty much what I've been thinking. I'm not sure if it's possible for Khan to adapt to a new mentality and style like that, though. He has always been an aggressive fighter, even in his amateur days, but his body isn't built for the style that his mind wants to use. It's a pity, because he has speed, a good jab, and height/reach...all useful tools for an outside, technical boxer. He just doesn't want to fight like that, though.

I'm not going to say that he's finished -- I wrote him off after the Prescott fight, and he came back and achieved things I didn't think he could do. That being said, things don't look good for him at the moment. I do think he's gone as far as he can under Roach's teaching, but I'm not sure which other trainer would be a good fit for him.

How can he change his style now? He says he wants to retire at 28.

It be a shame for him to retire but perhaps wise. His heart can't be questioned. He's just abit dumb imo... he needs to learn the sweet science of boxing.

If only we could give Victor, Amir's heart and Amir, Victor's power hahhaha

its really a reality check for khan and his fans. he wasn never the best at his divison and he was never as great as he and his fans thought he was. khan was giving a decent game plan in ever fight, but in every fight he still fights the same damn way.all the speed in the world dont mean **** when the elite level fighters can block, parry, roll and even counter your punches. i mean i thought thats why is was great to have fast hands, khan defense is also not as great either.roach cant train for defense because he was not a defensive fighter his damn self. but you know what you cant blame roach one bit because khan style is his stlye and either you can beat him or not. before roach he was koed and then blamed it on the weight and the trainer. five fights later with roach and at a higher weight he still has the same problem.khan and his fans need to understand he is as good as he is going to get, what he gone do now go to 147 ? the **** dont get know easier.

That's what I'm saying. He looked pretty good the first couple of rounds. Maybe it's the wake up call he needed. After just watching that, I'm sure few people think he can move forward too easily, but then again, fighters have come back from worse. Mentally, I think it's the first time he's had to question his style.

Against Prescott, to Khan, it was the weight, his lack of a world class trainer and conditioning coach, and his lack of religious piety.

Against Maidana, it was "oh look, I have a chin! SUCK ON THAT HATERZ!".

Against Peterson, it was, "I'm gonna fight smarter, but regardless Peterson was on PED's and the man in the hat was suspect and the DC referee was biased and I should have won on points anyway."

Now, against Garcia, maybe he's finally saying "I need to stop fighting like a dumbass, I knew I could have out-boxed that guy."

Eh, Khan doesn't have punch resistance enough to do what he wants to do in that boxing ring. That's a tough pill to swallow for someone with an ego like his.

Khan does not like to "think" in his matches, he just likes to impose his physicality and then go home for a spot of tea. IMO, he doesn't grasp that the truly greats have to at one time or another, think in their matches. And most of the time, that is ten times harder than physically dominating your opponent.

Thanks.Johnny meant the same to me as Gatti did to many others.:-(

Bogo,if you read this, how does he get past this inability to deal with telegraphed punches? I thought he'd sneak by Garcia but said several times that Garcia had those looping punches that could put Khan on Silly street.I mean Garcia looked so crude at times, almost amateurish.
I knew his wide style had potential trouble for Khan, but not in the apocolyptic way it did.Any slugger could throw a wide punch on Friday morning and it would still catch Khan on Saturday night.

I think back to RJJ on the night of the Maidana fight: "It's those loopin shots he's got to watch out for." Because of the way Khan sometimes holds his hands, but most of all because of his height and posture at mid-range and inside, he can't see shots coming from the side because his field of vision is compromised as he looks downward at his opponent. Mid-exchange is the best time to catch Khan because for some reason he can't throw many combinations without dropping his hands and falling in. He's inconsistent in this way; the flaws are always there, but not always to the same extent. If you look at the fight against Paulie, Khan was holding his hands up and anticipating very quick punches well. I remember in one instance where he jabbed, slipped a return jab, and throw a right hand over it in a very timely fashion. Then against McCloskey, you saw him impatiently rushing his shots and falling in all over the place, giving up his height. When he faced Judah, however, Zab was bending down all over the place, but this time Khan knew to hang back and go to the body instead of automatically tripping into a clinch. I think these inconsistencies showed up against Garcia. One minute, he's landing stiff jabs to the body and solid rights up top, and then he starts standing there mid-range, walking into shots as he looks for a knockout. The man simply has to get his **** together and do what he knows he should.

Respect to Khan, it takes allot of guts to put yourself out there in front of millions of people watching the fight. Khans dad always shows his class when interviewed, hopefully he comes back with the right frame of mind and a new and improved team, I knew after the Peterson fight that it was time for him to get a new trainer, what happened last night just proves my assumptions correct.

ok im the only voter for continue as he has

now i dont mean identical to his exact approach but he doesnt have to totally fix his entire style

he solved much of the flaws he made in the Petersen debacle but just ran into some new issues in this fight

i mean the guy is an aggressive fighter who likes to attack, for most of his career it has suited him in 3 fights it back fired

i dont say scrap everything and go from scratch but he must do something

his skills are not elite. His speed is elite, but his skills and boxing fundamentals are terrible. He could have won that fight standing on the outside and just jabbing Garcia and the fight being stopped on cuts. He wasn't jabbing Garcia to land his right, or landing a right to the body to lower Garcia's left hand. He was not working to get the opening for punches, he was just punching sloppily walking in and leaving himself open. I could see in rounds one and two that if he does not land on Garcia he would get caught. You cannot fight someone and walk in and exchange with your hands down like that. That is not elite skills.
