Gloves up, elbow in, knees bent and move your damn head. Angles and never move straight back with your gloves down. Good stiff straight jab. Watch early Winky Wright or current day Andre Ward.

Mayweather, Toney, Hopkins, Ward, Wright all were/are hard to tag when they didn't/don't want to be hit.

Blocking too much is not a good form of defense. You want to be able to slip and parry. I don't think that the Floyd/Toney style is realistic for those without exceptional reflexes. I think most fighters would be best served fighting with their hands up, bending their knees, and moving their head. Head movement really does seem to be a lost art.

Honestly depends on how athletic you are and what you personally are capable of.. If you're not athletic and naturally gifted the Mayweather/Toney approach probably won't help you as much as you'd think... Then you might want to try the Clottey approach and stop as much damage as possible, instead of slipping shots.

Whatever style you chose. You have to practice it in the gym.
