The truth is while the entire world of combat sports has evolved in this area, Boxing remains in the dark ages when it comes to a fighter taking a defeat.

I think (IMO) when a fighter is "Expossed" as they say it the term was probably first used to discribe a fighter as finished on a network or as a main eventer/PPV draw Ect...

People have since ran with it.

 

Many people who think they know about boxing write a lot of ******ed sh*t. (Especially here in ESB). It's not if a fighter loses, it's how he loses.

I don't recall ever really agreeing with your philosophy though I support your line of thought here. Its a major concern and one that years ago was deemed almost irrelevant. You fought you won you lost you scruntinized the reasoning with your peers and coaches and got back in the ring to prove yourself once again. Today's fans are fickle and weak minded they view flawless superiority as the only way to gain respect when in reality adversity builds true character and integrity, humility and patience. Unfortunately this will never end just like the bull**** spiritual wars that go on between Muslims, Jews and Christians when the irony of it all is these religons are based on the same concepts and teaching interpeted by man and deciphered by holy leaders that influence mindless followers into beleiveing they are the chosen ones and others will perish and rot in some pompous, melodramtic hell......I just went off on a tangent, my apologies....your post was godly.

It depends on how they lose,if it's a dplit decision or close loss they take less heat,but if you get ko'ed,then the fans and writers will let you have it.

Let me preface this by saying I'm certainly no boxing expert, just a long time fan of the sport.

I'll agree to some extent with what you said. However, when a fighter talks **** for weeks in advance about how he is going to destroy his opponent and gets KO'd by that opponent, he's going to get heat.

Also, if a fighter is a big favorite like Tyson was against Douglas at 42-1 and gets KTFO, they deserve some heat.

Look at how much heat Duran took when he did the famous "NO MAS" fight against Leonard in their rematch. He did redeem himself nicely and had a lot of good wins after that, but he did take a lot of heat, especially from the Hispanics.

 

I think a big reason for this is because of the guy who is at the top of the pile in boxing right now, Floyd Mayweather.

Its no coincidence that most of the 'over-hyped' fighters come from the light welterweight/welterweigt/light middle weight divisions, the divisions in which if you want to reach the top you need to get through Mayweather.

We are all looking for the next guy to come and de-throne Floyd and as soon as someone comes through who looks promising, the boxing community whips into a frenzy 'can he beat Floyd?? can he beat Floyd??' hyping the guy up, and when this guy loses he is labelled as 'done' which is ridiculous.

His undefeated record casts a shadow over boxing right now and we unfairly compare this record to anyone coming through who falls by the wayside.

I'm assuming you're talking about Khan. No way is he finished. He can still come back and be competitive at world level, he has the tools, he just needs to sort his head out and recognize his weaknesses.

I ask you this. If Khan had zero hype and there was no talk of him fighting Mayweather in the future, would there be the same amount of media writers and boxing fans saying he was finished?
