A drugged up Peterson couldnt take out Khan. Same with Maidana. They must be slapping themselves in the face after how my boy Danny Swift took Khan out, especially Maidana a supposedly hard puncher.
You know when I saw the Morales Garcia fight I kept asking myself "how the hell is Khan gonna take those left hooks?" 35 year old Erik Morales has got some ****ing whiskers.
Peterson was trying the left-hook counter in the first round too, but he kept getting caught because he was trying to pull straight back from Khan's flurries, leading to the trips/'knockdowns'. When he changed his strategy, he was marching forward throwing punches, so Khan had time to brace himself and take them without getting too hurt. The same thing happened with Maidana -- Khan was expecting the shots due to Maidana's constant aggression, aside from the looping rights (from outside his vision) that eventually got to him in the tenth. It's the shots that catch him while he's throwing that do the most damage -- when he was badly shaken against Prescott it was because he was countered while throwing a body shot. When he was all over the place against Maidana, it was because he was moving into the shot and throwing a jab at the time. In the Garcia fight he was in the middle of throwing an uppercut, and he was caught with the left when he least expected it.
Khan chin has been taking alot of punishment lately,so it was only a matter of time before it got exposed again, morales is a true mexican warrior.
Hmm. If you get this message - what dyou think Khan couldve done differently? I know everyone keeps saying that he shouldve stuck with the jab and fought behind that at distance. My thing is Khan usually fights this way albeit with Garcia he was a little too aggressive. Would his style from Judah fight have been a good one to replicate? Where he was a little more judicious and wary of Judahs power and so he flurried only in spots and for the most part worked off the jab. I still feel like Garcia wouldve caught him with the left hook eventually.
I actually asked myself that question, and I realized that they (not to take anything from Garcia), may have had something to do with it. Kahn was in a war with both of those fighters, and my question is how much did it take out of him. He took a good amount of punishment in both of those fights.
It doesn't make Maidana look bad at all. There was little information on how to fight Amir before Rene fought him. Amir was reinvented coming off wins against MAB, Kotelnyk, Salita, and Malignaggi. None of those guys really challenged him and therefore didn't discover much on what works on him. Rene was dealing with an unknown variable and managed to take control in the later half of the fight. Now this makes PEDerson's performance look less impressive.
