Charles looked a lot more lean ripped in 1948 than he did later in the 50s...Definitely sharper and quicker. He continued to fight great fights up until 1954, but his absolute best was the late 40s...poetry in motion

That's a great photo! Guess it sums up how decisively Moore was beat...

This was only a moment after Moore thought he finally had Charles where he wanted him, reeling against the ropes. Then the Cobra struck, and Archie never knew what hit him.

Was Charles baiting him or was he really hurt enough and just came roaring back enough to KO Moore?

Some spectators felt Charles was on the verge of being knocked out, although others believe he was only playing possum. I guess we will never truly know. Either way, it was a great accomplishment by Charles.

One thing is for sure and that is that Moore was more vulnerable to speed than power for the most part as Charles mastery and later Patterson's blow out proved ...

Thanks for the info. Very true though how many fighters knocked out a prime Archie Moore?

Archie claims he managed to beat Charles on decision though Think its true that there was bad blood between the two though...

Moore was declining by 1957 and fought one of the worst fights of his career when he fought Patterson. I think a 1952 Archie Moore vs Floyd Patterson is a much different fight. I will say, Floyd fought far and away the best fight of his career vs Archie that night. Floyd would have probably always beat him, but nowhere near that easily.

Make no mistake about it, Archie beat plenty of speed fighters...ever heard of Harold Johnson? Floyd Patterson's manager wanted no part of that guy.
