It's a bunch of cavemen in here. This isn't a bad idea, if it will help nbc boxing survive, I'm for it.
we do get commercials. Its on the trunks of certain boxers.. You can get some commercials if Trainers wore them as well.
**** that. It's bad enough pro sports starting scheduling games whether reg season or playoffs around TV schdules. Throw a 30 sec commmercial and move the **** on.
And that doubles your earnings thus the ability to pay bigger talents on to free TV. I don't how this negatively impacts the sport. Yes it is a power grab but from whom? It does not undermine the fighters. It does not put any one in danger. Delays between rounds are already common. I don't see why not just monetize it and allow more free TV (or regular cable) to show more boxing at different levels. And this means maybe one day I don't have to listen to Max Kellerman or Atlas. More people, more broadcasters and more companies involve with the boxing business the better.
Then stop posting, because you're just proving yourself to be a clueless idiot (yet again) and your opinions mean less and less around here every day.
Amir Khan will come out tomorrow and say that if he'd had 67 seconds between rounds,he wouldn't have lost and would have KO'd Garcia. You watch...
...and we have what assurances exactly that they'd be true to their word and pass the extra revenues on to the boxers rather than just mine it for profit? The art of ripping off fighters is as old as the sport itself. If evil bloodsuckers running PPV are replaced by evil bloodsuckers at big free-air networks, what have we really accomplished? How are we to know they can't still offer lucrative amounts to the big talents with just the one commercial between rounds instead of two?
So they should ban stoppages. Twelve rounds no matter what. If a guy's dead, his corner men should attach strings to his wraps and have him box on like a marionette. Can't let anything hurt the bottom line! :err
67 seconds between rounds is also no guarantee the NBC shows will provide the rating that will determine just how long it stays on the air.
There is no guarantee but there is a CHANCE which is better than the current TR vs GBP fight - which already has denied us PBF vs Pac and countless other championship match ups (or when it mattered). That guarantees you make jack **** unless you headline or you are some ginger from Mexico or your father was an ATG. ****ing Martinez has been in the top 5 months (years?) now and still can't get paid. When you have PPV and free TV fighting competition eventually will benefit the consumers. I mean if it was not for ESPN and latin American TV broadcasting in US cable, US TV broadcast is ****ing terrible for boxing. Sho is good. HBO never show undercards and to some one of the worse broadcasting team. I have SNY here in NYC. They actually show good C level fighters and some Golden Glove match up but they are often WEEKS delayed. But I rather watch that than not watch boxing at all.
Thing is, I'm perfectly content with these options (and PPVs...although I rarely pay for them :yep) Boxing increasing its visibility on a major network like NBC is a nice idea and all..but I can take it or leave it, and definitely am not interested if they're going to take liberties and start tinkering. When does that door close?
Nothing's wrong with it if advertisers would pay enough for the airtime, but they don't. As it is, too many terrestrial cards are losing money just to air on TV, and if that continues to happen, networks will find a more profitable alternative, like how ESPN and USA and other networks have dumped fight shows in favor of poker reruns and B-movies. Plus, more revenue should mean more money for the actual fights, meaning better televised cards.
****, Think I know whats next, they might start delaying NBC shows, Why'd they change official boxing rules for a network? Either do 1 commercial + highlights or 2 commercials 0 highlights, or no commercials highlights + commentary. Pick.
