Looks terrifying, I wouldn't like to pass him in a dark alley. Although when he smiles he looks deranged, terrifying like a lunatic rather than a hard man.
According to an article I read, Langford and Johnson liked to make fun of McVea's looks and they did it to his face too. Another reason why they are among the "baddest" men to ever box (if not the most courteous). This content is protected Most wouldn't dare look him in the eye. Apparently a nice guy, though, even if he didn't look like it.
There's a story that there was an item passed around (I think it was a key) and if a guy found a man uglier than him, he was to pass the key on. Eventually it reached McVey and he remarked that he would never get rid of it as his momma never gave him any looks, or something to that accord. It was either in the Johnson or Langford book but it's probably just folklore of the time anyway but, a nice anecdote.
Nothing would be worse than being ugly, being made fun of for it, then getting your ass kicked by the bully making fun of you...
I always thought Harry Greb was a real weird name. Like if you are mad at someone, you tell them; "Dude, suck my harry greb!"
