Nice to know that some peoples biggest problem is adding 7 seconds to rounds they aren't even involved in. 60 seconds was obviously chosen in an era when time pieces were analog and it was much easier to break everything at the minute level. People are acting as if it was one of the commandments handed down by the boxing gods.
The commercials are already made to fit specific time constraints. New ones would have to be made to fit the shortened time frame. That equals increased costs.
If CBS wants to pick up boxing, then that is even more exposure. Look, I have a background in media and know a little bit about this. Commercials are pre-cut for a determined length prior to being delivered to the networks. The networks sell the time slots for those spots. Showtime gets subscriber fees, they do not need commercials.
You aren't telling me anything I am already aware of. My contention is, there's nothing at this moment that shows adding 7 seconds between round will be the determinig factor on keeping it on TV, and that's what it comes down to. If there's low ratings, it won't be on TV regardless of how long the commercial breaks are.
