Most people here are dense and cant seem to grasp such an easy concept.

The fighter who achieves the most, with the less amount of training, hard work, dedication etc, tha's the fighter who is naturally gifted, yet people are naming Robinson, Whitaker, Mayweather, etc, guys who clearly train/trained their arses off

Yeah but their skills are god given, if slipping a punch like Whitaker could not be obtained through training alone.

So you think he was born with that peek-a-boo style? It wasn't trained into him?

    Wow, that's impressive !

I'm saying he seemed to have a flair for it not that he came out of his mothers womb bobbing and weaving.

Well, that's a good question for discussion, for sure.

I believe that slipping punches CAN be learned, and most trainers would agree. Speed & reflexes? Not so much, but the muscle-memory to slip, counter, etc, all completely train-able.

Have you ever seen footage of Hollyfield training, back in his prime? That man did NOT have great natural skills, but he trained his but off.

His team actually built a machine that moved a dummy-fighter around and threw various combinations. Hollyfield practiced for hours & hours, day after day, on how to slip those punches and then counter. It obviously paid off.

I don't know if any other fighter ever took it to that extreme level, but you can bet Whittaker, Leonard, etc did something similar.

Well any skill can be achieved with enough practise and training but Sweet Pea had a natural talent for defence and this is shown by how creatively he could apply those skills.

A NATURAL! A WUNDERKIND! C, that's the best way to describe Willie Pep. He could do what he did at his best -- believe it,or not -- on day one in the gym. He was born to box.

Even years later, he never worked to improve anything; 'n still -- half-in-the bag -- he was unbelievable sparring. He only came to the gym ta break balls 'n for the laughs.

I think floyd was mentaly programed to be like he his :)
For me it has to be Toney,
Imagine if floyd said **** training ill eat alot go fight dudes at 175 I dont think hed get far. Definition of a naturaly gifted fighter is one that does exactly what toney did and do well.

Calzaghe worked and worked. He and his dad are perfectionists. You don't just have that kind of stamina and boxing brain. Chin and speed, yes, but he had to put in work to become that good. Same deal with Floyd. Dude is naturally gifted but that's combined with a TON of hard work. And dedication. And being a gorilla and a dawg, though one could argue he was genetically predispositioned that way.

    1. It's amazing you got to see him in training.
    2. This is why I say Ray Robinson. The dude was whooping guys the same way in the amateurs as he was as a pro. He never really changed his style or developed much, he was just way ****ing good.

watching live for me would be a bloke called King Davidson. Guy could pretty much do anything but lack of tough opposition and dedication cost him big time.

On TV would have to be Tommy Hitman Hearns
