    It was massive.

For the week leading up to the fight practically everybody was talking about it.

I would say it was the biggest fight involving a British fighter this side of the millennium - EPIC!!!

It was big for the Hatton fans.

For 99 % of the pop it was irrelevant.

Only diehard boxing fans know who the convict is.

The rest of the pop dont have a clue who the convict is.

I call those people "The lucky ones".

People who know boxing knew he was a big underdog. I remember nearly jumpin through the ceiling when floyd did that weird stagger in the first but he just lost his balance.

Once again you chatting out your arse. A lot of people were excited for the fight. On the tubes, buses, bars and cafes people were discussing this fight.

Are you from the UK? Because it's clear you don't know ****.

Absolutely huge, people who I didn't even think liked Boxing were asking to come and watch it. It was crazy building up to it, I just remember being at my mate's with everyone screaming the house down singing god save the queen (not me though :D). My mate was even crying when he got knocked out hahaha!

Even people who'd never watched boxing in their life were captivated with it, watching 24/7 instead of their favourite soap opera.

''I hope Hatton really batters him. Don't like people from Manchester but I want him to kill that mouthy *******'' - was all I heard.

The only individual sporting duel that wasn't in the Olympics I can think of that matched it was when the athletics promoters paid Carl Lewis to come and race Linford Christie back in 1993. Christie had won the Olympics but Lewis hadn't been there.

Other things like England rugby in 2003 or cricket in 2005 matched it (or were perhaps bigger) but those were team sports.

true, mayweather dropped a bollock with that one and he knew it afterwards, thats why he's looked for a way to tap into the british market since, checking out the suitability of matthew hatton and khan fights. bet floyd is gutted that khan keeps losing :rofl

if mayweather had of fought pacquiao when the 1st negotiations took place he would have made shitloads from the british ppv market back then because everyone wanted to see that fight in britain at that time.

with regards to the OP's question, the fight was huge in england and well promoted by sky sports. off the top of my head, the only other fights in britain that have grossed anywhere near that kind of interest in my lifetime were

    benn v eubank 2
    lewis v tyson
    bruno v tyson 1 & 2
