I mean in the court of public opinion not in the wallet. Athletes pay fines like we pay bills but public opinion wise I don't think he should be getting a pass like I'm seeing. Is it "G" to not make weight?
A year suspension is harsh. Maybe a hefty fine and have the fight cancelled. But still compensating the fighter that made weight.
He didn't even try. He was eating junk food and posting pics on twitter. How anyone can not be furious at that is beyond me. For THAT he should get suspended because he clearly didn't and doesn't give a **** and he posted the evidence of that on twitter.
I agree that it's unlikely he tried to take the weight off. Him and his camp knew a long time ago that he wouldn't be able to make it, so why didn't they inform someone? It's unfair to ask Escobedo to boil down when Broner is comfortably above 130. If a fighter can't make weight but he's worked hard, that's fine. What I can't accept is a fighter clearly cutting corners.
There is a lot of bias on both sides. Those that excuse Broner and will be celebrating his victory giving no concern to the fact that he cut corners. and those that give Broner crap but excuse their fav fighter for not making weight.
bs. *****s always got to make it a race thing. doesnt matter that hes black. who fuggin cares what color he is? its about principles. his decision to not make weight speaks volumes about his character and his fans who support his dishonest ways. this is 1 of the things wrong with this sport. there is no integrity. guys r cheating to get by and then call themselves champions. too funny
Sucks for Escobedo, but also for Broner. The fact that he ran for 1.5 hours this morning means he was fully unprepared to make weight yo begin with. Had he not sweated off that weight, he would've been much heavier on the scales. I say it sucks for him because he's young and already undisciplined with weight. He's bound to turn up like James Toney. Weight wise that is.
I agree here. It's not what Broner did today to lose the weight as "trying", it's what got him in the position to have to sweat off half a healthy newborn baby in a little more than an hour. It's the things leading up to this that equate to trying or lack thereof.
I am going to celebrate when he wins but he should have made weight. People should have said the same thing with Morales and Rios. My big problem with Rios other than he is a **** boxer is that he missed weight stayed at the same weight then missed it again. You miss weight take your ass up a weight class.
People like him for the way he carries on, and people have every right to dislike him for the way he carries on. It goes both ways.
