With Broner missing weight and the general problem of fighters starving themselves to then balloon the next day and have a huge weight advantage over the opponent I was wondering why they stopped same day weigh ins in the first place? Anyone know?

They're dangerous for the fighter's health

Fighters who have to make the weight the day of the fight are often dehydrated and weak for the fight, so they could take some serious damage

Because instead of starving themselves and ballooning the next day, fighters just end up starving themselves. And then people die.

Because they thought it's better for a fighter to replenish themselves before a fight.

    Yes Duk Koo Kim.

Also i think Eddie Mustapha Muhammad was overweight for his light-heavy unification fight with Michael Spinks, which did not actually happen even as non title fight so loads of money lost as too late to cancel.

So combination of both health and safety of fighters and $$$$$ got the weigh ins day before.

It's dangerous for the fighters that obviously are choosing to fight outside their proper weight. The problem is that many are trying to win by using weight to their advantage.

Greed or need for money pressures many to make the wrong choice.

Yes. It was very dangerous because boxers would try to cut a lot of weight, and without proper rehydration, you're at a greater risk for brain damage.

A fully rehydrated boxer is like having an egg in a glass of water. Shake the glass, the egg won't break. A dehydrated boxer's brain is an egg in an empty glass.

When you drain your body of all fluids, the fluids (mostly water) around your brain, that protects it, is dehydrated as well.

The way I look at it cutting weight, and rehydrating is just another aspect of hte game you got to master if you want to be hte best.

The Manicini-Kim fight lead to the elimination of 15 round fights. But I didn't know it eliminated same day weigh ins.

I thought those two came together after an inquiry.

I know that IBF instituted a no more than 10 pounds gain after weigh-in with the Gatti-Gamache debacle.
