Well I appreciate it. You're the first one made the "Azrael" connection.

I don't think trading shots with them works, unless your the superior fighter.

Roy wasn't talking out of his ass though. There is two blue prints for beating guys like Broner. The first is the Jean Pascal vs Chad dawson ambush fighter blueprint. Thats the one that Roy was referring to because its the style he created. The other-way is the Castillo way for basically Hopkins like bum rushing him and then throwing high volume in the form off high looping right hands over his shoulder and also varying left hooks to the body and head. Both Floyd and broner had trouble and were lucky to get decisions against the guys they've fought with the latter style (Castillo and ponce de leon). Neither has ever fought the ambush style.

So people are questioning a hall of fame boxer as to how to beat the shoulder roll ?

I'm sure from 88 to say now Jones might have faced a shoulder roll maybe in sparring or as a pro !

I think i'm taking the word of the pros over the words of a mssg board ..SRL also had a great formula to beating that style . Shoulder roll has been used for yrs ..

I totally agree with your point about the head movement being limited by the style and thus the right side of the head is open. Infact if you look at basically all the hard shots Floyd has been hit with they are all shot looping shots that come over his shoulder and down onto the right side of his head.

Also people have to remember its not a style for amateurs to be trying to emulate. Floyd didn't even do it very much when he turned pro. Its only as he's gotten more seasoned and evolved as a fighter that he's started bring his lead hand down more and keep his head more stationary.

Great point. SLR vs Benitez is a great example of how affective continually throwing a Jab right hand going can be against this style. It was also a great example of countering counter-punching with volume.

If you're coming over his shoulder, how would you be hitting the right side of his head? He tucks himself behind his left shoulder using it like a shield. Mosley caught him nowhere near the right side of his head.

I see the left hook being used to great effect in that case, a punch Floyd has on lockdown.

I wasn't talking about how Floyd throws a great leaping left hook. I was talking about how Jamez was getting caught with left hooks, a punch Floyd has virtually completely mastered defending against.

Toney wasn't a 100% in most of his fights at 160/168, the guy was naturally 200+ lbs as a high schooler. None of this is RJJ fault, had he been 100" he still wouldve got beat, considering the utter domination where he won no rounds. Do you think you'd be saying how he wasnt 100% if Rjj decided to fight him in a phone book and got beat? Every fighter needs an excuse when they loss, for their ego.

Volume is the key ..SRL also said he'd aim to the top of the head throwing his punches higher ..

All RJJ said, was that there ARE specific weaknesses that can be exploited with the Shoulder Roll - He won't say them.. but there are two or three of them that are there.

Everything has it's weaknesses. He said it's not for him to say what they are (maybe out of respect for Floyd???)

But I would like to know, for sure.
