You just mentioned Jack Johnson and Adrian Broner in the same sentence...
    Jack Johnson is an ATG.
Il ask again 'who' has Broner beaten and more to the point who is Broner that you actually think you can mention him in the same sentence as Johnson?

The fight would of gone the exact same way regardless of weight.

Only this way, Escobedo now has a legitimate excuse, a lot more money and a 2nd world title shot.

What Broner did wasn't right, nobody thinks that at all. But it all worked out better for Escobedo.

Good post.......but Broner has been looking for a reason to drop the belt so really, that's a mute point.

But yeah, lose/win for Esco, and yeah he'll get another big fight outta this, but not for near the 150K guarantee that fighting a guy on Broners level fetched him.:think

I agree but people say Cotto was drained at 145 lbs, who knows if Broner drained down to 130 lbs it may have affected his performance.

I think it's a slippery slope to say that because he got paid it's all okay. Boxing is a business but it still has to have a code of ethics or it falls apart, Team Broner effectively buying a weight advantage is unethical. Regardless of how financially better it makes Escobedo. The reason I feel sorry for Escobedo is that it looks like he was bullied or guilt tripped into the accepting the money and that his $200K or whatever it turned out to be will be long gone when Broner becomes a rich pay-per-view attraction off the back of winning fights like these with a stacked deck.

    Once again hear say.

The fact is they agreed. If Escobedo wasn't happy I'm sure bob arum and other promotional companies would be happy to require his services.

The guy crying was actually dumb considering he accepted almost double his initial purse. If he so ashamed about it give the money back.:deal

Nobody is saying what Broner did was right. I am saying I dont feel sorry for Escobedo. He was getting his ass kicked either way. At least this way he got some great money. He also is getting a title shot. Now do you actually think he should have a title at any weight? I bet people dont ***** about him needing to step up competition if he wins a title. He should be long gone the guy is an average fighter. And he should be happy for the pay check.

I have never seen people cry more about 3lbs at a weigh in and 5lbs the day of the fight in my life. These are the same people that want guys like Floyd and Manny to give up weight in all there fights and if they dont they call them pussies

But it better not be "long gone". This guy has been around for years and has probably been fighting for peanuts to this point. He could very well be near the end of his career, especially if he gets blasted out like that again. He quite possibly may never earn any where close to that amount of money again, for the rest of his career, let alone one fight.

This fight is possibly the best thing(money wise) that has ever happened for him, or will ever happen again in his boxing career.

Wonder how much he made for his last 2 fights on Telefutura? Does Telefutura pay even as much as ESPN(about $12K/fight?)?

More people cried about Cotto fighting 2 pounds under 147 lbs.

I see your point but I think its too dismissive to say that he would get his ass kicked either way. Broner is clearly a quality fighter but Escobedo did come to win (even if he was the underdog in the fight) Broner's actions took the fight away from Escobedo and turned it into a something Escobedo couldn't win. The money he was paid to still go through with it is better than nothing but it still doesnt stop me feeling sorry for him.

And that my friend is the extent of your comparison which for all intents is meaningless. Johnson = ATG. Broner = just some lightweight from Ohio.
