Honest question. I gave each round to Broner, but frankly the first couple rounds weren't a domination. Escobedo was finding room for his jab and Broner was fighting really defensively. Granted, in the fifth Broner straight walked Escobedo down and was landing but at no stage did Escobedo appear out of it or hurt. I still held no hope for Escobedo coming back to win at all, but would liked to have seen more action. So in all honesty, did anybody feel that Joel Diaz threw the towel in prematurely?
Hell no. I have tons of respect for a trainer who knows when to save his fighter. There was no hope for his fighter, so he saved him the damage. I thought it was perfect.
I agree there was absolutely no hope for Vicente, and for this I do applaud the trainer for his actions.
All us fans got jobbed last night is what really happened. HBO and Haymon made sure the fight went on, but it seemed more like an exhibition. Escobedo was allowed to profit big, give a few rounds to keep the show on, and then bow out immediately as soon as things got tough. Somewhat of a joke if you ask me.
Certainly if the ref had stopped it(own his own), it would be seen as an early stoppage. Actually though, I think seconds earlier, Escobedo gave a signal to Diaz that he about had enough. His nose was broken, he was rich, and he did not want his pretty face smashed any more.
Are you nuts? He was getting hurt from the start and in the fifth when broner felt he could do it, he started to walk him down and was putting a major beat down on him. Why would any corner, that actually cares for their fighter not do what his corner did? The only bad thing is that the ref did not see Diaz earlier, Escobedo was taking a major beating:bart

I honestly disagree with this. And to make a point, a lot of posters on this site were criticising Ortiz and supporting his trainer for encouraging him to continue when his jaw was broken. I understand the circumstances are somewhat different as Ortiz actually had a chance to win the fight if he continued, but the comparison is still relevant.
Those body shots can do lasting damage. Broner was walking through the limited offense Esco had and was wailing on him.
a lot of posters on this site are ******ed. Remember these are the same posters that cheered Arthur Mercante Jr. throwing the towel out of the ring during Cotto-Foreman because it proved Foreman was tough(even though Foreman couldn't move and it was an exercise in futility.
escobedo was not so small himself lets not forget that. But no it was fine to stop the fight everybody got what they came for
