Yeah I guess if you leave out the fact that Leonard was in his prime at 24 years old and those other guys were beyond old.. they were shot. DeLaHoya and Mosley both started at the lighter weights as well. Leonard was a natural Welterweight.

Props to Leonard. Duran was flat though.

Let's recap. Duran had excuses for Leonard II and Hearns(somewhat). Were there any excuses for Kirkland Laing, Benitez, or Hagler? I don't think so, but I'm no expert.

I've always been inclined to believe the Duran story, because physically walking out of the ring is such a drastic measure for a veteran fighter.

But when you're in for an ass-whooping by a guy you hate, you've had diuretics, and a few punches to the body have you feeling like letting go of your bodily substances, thereby becoming even more of a laughing stock...

It's possible Duran walked out of the ring mainly to avoid the sheer embarassment of shitting himself in the ring while being beat up by his hated rival. I don't think it was the clowning mainly, though it didn't help. Just Leonards superiority and the impending bowel movement.

I'm just asserting that Duran's size disadvantage was blown out of proportions most of the time.It must be weird that this "former lightweight" quote was used when Duran was fighting Hagler and Leonard,but no one bothered to mentioned that Leonard was a "former welterweight" fighting Marvin Hagler.

 

I like both fighters but I thought it was great tbh, to be able to have the confidence AND ability to do that to a monster (at that time) like Duran is great.

Its Duran`s duty to stop Leonard from doing it, its not Leonard`s duty to show respect to a man that offered him none.

 

The fight was a joke from start to finish.

Duran was a disgrace.

 

It was a fight that Roberto Duran was 'not' motivated for.

Ray Leonard was more 'workmanlike' with a 'dash-of-flash' stolen from other boxers.

Most were not overly impressed with Ray Leonard's performance.
