Broner's playing the villain archetype to a tee...

and alot of you guys are playing right into it. he's simply making your blood boil to the point that you actually despise him, from what I've read. he's brash, cocky, unapologetic, and he's going to make millions for it, if he doesn't get beaten first. taking the floyd path isn't that bad when you couldnt care less what people think about you and you're looking to make millions. all he needs is that fan favorite to destroy and he skyrockets into the big time. I don't know if that fighter exists, though.

 

pretty much. i enjoy watching these clowns blood boil over a guy they dont know.

and the fact that Broner dont give a damn makes it even funnier.

He also gained some fans and more haters. He is becoming must see TV. There is a ton of people that didnt see the fight but saw the hair brush proposal. They will tune into his next fight

 

Maybe, but stuffing his face with **** whilst in camp then not making weight combined with flaunting it in our faces on twitter isn't playing the villain, that's just a total disrespect for the sport and a completely ****ish thing to do.

 

I mean, definitely. he's actually making sound business moves every time he fools around. I mean, you don't see guys like andre ward or chad dawson receiving the same support.

Before all that no one really gave Escobedo a chance.

 

I disagree. I think he's clearly selling himself through the villain archetype. you don't have to be smart to act like an ass because you know fans will be polarized about you and resultingly come out and/or pay in droves to see you fight.

furthermore, you have no idea who he really is outside of how he projects himself on television, youtube and social networks.

 

No he genuine is an ass, he doesn't need to put on an act. He's not playing a villain he's just unprofessional. Maybe a combination of ghetto ignorant and arrogant entitlement, that's not an act

So he didn't make weight and jepodised his own payday to get more haters to sell more tickets? Seriously

The reason he's got popularity is because he has the HBO marketing machine behind him putting him in the spotlight highlighting shows against stiffs not because of anything he's done, bar be an American based world level boxer

If you want to see someone play a role, watch Naseem Hamed, his haters are still jizzing over the Barrera loss 11 years on, when Broner gets exposed (and he will) I don't think anyone will care for long

you see, the difference between your interpretation and my own is the fact that I dont think he ever planned to make weight. not only did he contend that he was moving up after the fight, in the lead up to the fight he constantly reasserted the fact that he was groing out of the weight class. Tweeting pictures of himself eating junk food played into the role and whether he was being genuine or not, he knew that, and as a result he played it up. he's playing the villain and glorifying his unprofessionalism is part of his theatre.

not coming in making weight didn't jeopardize his payday. there was no way that escobedo would call his 3.5 pound bluff on the biggest fight of his career on the other side of the country with a fresh family at home, and i'm sure an experienced manager like al haymon would have known such a thing.
