Seriously. 2 of the 3 last cards have been showcases ( Except Khan-Garcia, Which funny to say, It was planned to be! )

Nonito Donaire Vs. Jeffery Matthebula - Matthebula was a mediocre opponent with 0 punching power, high workrate and bad defense. His only advantage was height. Matthebula won his title in what most say was a robbery vs one of the more plastic titleholders, Takalani Ndlovu.

They knew it being a " unification " would be their way of marketing it, and they did well.

In the end Matthebula fought like ****, Donaire waslazy and let some rounds slip away, But any time he turned up the heat it showed he was a clear step above Matthebula. Showing this was yet another HBO showcase.

    THE CO-FEATURE:

Kelly Pavlik Vs. Will Rosinsky - Rosinsky is a tough fighter who did put pressure on Pavlik but it was clear Rosinsky was limited from truely beating a guy a step above him like Pavlik, This type of Decent Contender vs world level guy isn't what I expect from HBO either.

    LAST NIGHT:

Adrien Broner Vs Vicente Escobedo - Broner is a slick, powerful, fast, basicly all around GREAT FIGHTER, Escobedo is a tough opponent with decent skills and a heart. Thats it, Broner fought guys like Eloy Perez, on the same level, Plus we already know he can't fight at world class. Katsidis and Guerrero both beat Escobedo, He gave a tough fight to Katsidis is the only marketing he had on their air, His biggest wins were to a shot to **** Kevin Kelly and past prime Rocky Juarez, The Juarez fight was actually very close on my card! Simple as that. I hate it when HBO puts a decent contender in with a fighter with Superstar potential, Hyping how they have a bogus title, or top 10 contendership, they are two different levels! This is getting old!!!

Keith Thurman Vs. Orlando Lora - Thurman is one of the best prospects in America, And has a lot of potential. Lora is a journeyman who got danced around by Paulie Malignaggi. MISMATCH of the year! No right on HBO!!!

yea I know we got Ward-Dawson coming up, But judging by HBO calenders ATM we got many more showcases too.

    Lets see:

    Sept 1st:

Gennady Golovkin Vs. Gregorz Proksa - Golovkin is one of the best up and comers, highly avoided, Proksa is a limited Polish fighter who lost a close SD to British journeyman Kerry Hope. While both have their own talent still two levels CLEARLY. Compare Proksa-Hope 1 to Golovkin-Fuchigami. Proksa beat Sebastian Sylvester, a decent german fighter when he was at his very worst, before you hype that,

    MISMATCH! 1/1

    Sept 1st:

Sergei Dzinziruk Vs. Johnathan Gonzalez - I like it! Your talking a solid prospect in Gonzalez taking an early step up verses a contender and former WBO LMW champ, Great fight,

    SOLID HBO FIGHT 1/2

    Sept 8th:

Vitali Klitschko Vs. Manuel Charr - NOPE! Charr is a limited fighter, I have seen him, not in top 20 even. Showcase for Vitali somehow on HBO!

    MISMATCH! 2/3

    Sept 8th:

Andre Ward Vs. Chad Dawson - While I don't like Dawson coming down in weight at his size, these are two of the best skilled boxers in America facing off. Nice tactical fight!

    GREAT HBO FIGHT 2/4

    Sept 8th:

Antonio DeMarco Vs. John Molina Jr - Nice co-feature between Lightweight fighters for WBC title!

    Worth HBO TV! 2/5

    Sept 29th ( TRIPLEHEADER ):

Edwin Rodriguez Vs. Jason Escalera - Mismatch. Rodriguez is a solid contender. Escalera is an unknown club fighter who hasn't fought anyone near Rodriguez's level!

    MISMATCH! Not worth HBO! 3/6

Luis Orlando Del Valle Vs. Vic Darchinyan - Del Valle is a great prospect. Beating up lower level contenders like Chris Martin. This fight is OK. Darchinyan has looked bad lately though, Yamanaka beat him easy, which isn't good.

err. I think there are many better fights, Darch has been looking bad lately. I'll give it half. 3.5/7

Zsolt Erdei Vs. Isaac Chilemba - Erdei is a very good fighter over in Hungary. Has over 30 wins, no losses, glad we got him over here to be exposed to American fans and fight more top guys. Chilemba is ok also, Has a draw with Thomas Oosthuizen, just beat Miranda.

The match up is pretty good. Co-feature like quality so I am OK with it. But not pleased by the card overall. 4/8

The reason why I wrote all that **** out was beacause look. Judging by this HALF of the upcoming HBO fights are mismatchs. This needs to stop. HBO is failing the sport badly. Time to get back on track HBO!!!

I don't mind a good beat down mismatch every now and then, but it needs to have some sort of buzz or entertainment factor such as seeing Alvarez try to retire Mosley which was well overdue. Even then it should be an under card fight, I am not interested in showcase main events. I tuned into Donaire's last fight mainly because it was a unification bout, then after a round I realized Mathebula didn't have a chance in hell of pulling off a victory, I should have known better since I always say belts don't necessarily equal a competitive fight and the championships are very diluted. :patsch At the end of the day it was an audition against a tall fighter, might as well pick one without a decent punch.

Remember when everyone thought things would just be great at HBO once Greenburg was gone

I see Steve Kim declared last night a low point in the history of boxing on the network. But I thought Hershman was going to revolutionize both the network and the sport!

hbo did reject some fights that they considered mismatch...of recent donaire-mijares.

the gamboa-rios superfight also got scrapped.

but yeah...they should only buy fights that are competetive.

Yep. Two showcases for two quality fighters, I don't expect that **** for an HBO main event and co-feature.

No, But it would make a great BAD co-feature, but not on a card with a dead main event. :verysad

Oh please, Hershman has done worse so far if anything. Less shows, Showcase bouts, He also got rid of a prospect series they had set to go for a year on HBO 2 with Greenburg. He gave promoters involved ( Dibella, GBP, Gary Shaw ) 1-2 cheaper HBO Boxing After Dark Slots instead. :patsch

I agree with Kim, Very bad time for HBO fights.

I agree Hershman's been a disappointment, but Kim comes off as a hypocrite since he, Hauser, and to a lesser extent Montoya were whining for Greenburg's head for years and treated Hershman's ascent as indicative of some kind of sea change.

the sad part about it....it was thomas hausers piece on hbo and how they operated that got the rest of the internet hacks to start shitting on the old guard at hbo. yes...that's the same thomas hauser who works for toprank now. the writers for the most part are glorified fans who really don't know **** about the sport. i seriously believe some of these hacks are paid by toprank to spew bull****. is it any wonder why those same hacks **** on al haymon and his fighters? showtime is beating the **** outta hbo right now and they're doing it with the same ppl the hacks said had favor at hbo...haymon and gbp. i think the execs need to stop listening to the ppl who don't know **** about **** when it comes to boxing. just because they have press passes...and access the participants doesn't mean they understand boxing, how it works...how to develop a fighter...or any of that. the funniest **** ever to me was reading a response to an email i sent a writer (who's name i won't mention) and a situation with amateur boxing. he went on to say how "amateur boxing was irrelevant and he only covered pros....blah,blah,blah..." where did he think these pros were coming from?
