From the MEN Paper. About the Garcia Rematch Khan said "I know they(Garcias Camp) don't want to,but Golden Boy have shown there is a way of trapping you in there and cornering you. "Because in a way I didn't want to fight Marcos Maidana but I was trapped in a corner. I never wanted to give up my title so I took the fight. "He will be cornered and have to take the fight because no fighter wants to vacate title.

so what? he and freddie said at them time they felt the fight was coming too early as they could have made more from it a few fights later, fact is he beat him after a long layoff and thats that.

 

To be fair I don't think there was a line of people wanting to fight Maidana when he was on that run. Many thought he won the Kotelnik fight. Beat Ortiz into submission, almost punched a hole in Cayo's chest as well and picked up another few wins. Fair play to him taking it regardless of being backed into a corner when a lot of people on here were expecting a KO win for Maidana.

 

And at the end, he did and won.

 

inb4 "he almost had khan out in the 10th round" even though khan almost had him out in the 1st.

 

you cant claim to be a world champion and then say 'fights are too early', thats ridiculous

 

If nothing else listening to Khan nowadays is just pure 100 percent comedy value

 

This appears to have been taken out of context. I imagine that he meant there was another fight he wanted more or they felt the Maidana fight would be bigger and make a lot more financial sense a couple of fights down the road.

You can slag Khan off for many things, but being a coward or ducking challenges is not one of them. The fact that he wants to get right back in with Garcia after being beaten in the manner he was, should tell you exactly what sort of attitude he has to fighting.

That's why he fought him.... and won.

 

He should forget a rematch with Garcia. It's not going to happen, Garcia's dad don't want it. He said Khan is like an old pair of shoe's. Khan is starting for the beginning again.

 

i get the feeling khan is feeling some hate towards GBP, I would anyway if oscar was bigging me up saying how great I was then when garcia won oscar was all over garcia after the fight as though he wanted garcia wanted to win anyway, oscar is a slime ball same as all them ****ing promoters

 

Khan won the title before he finished his boxing education really, that's the problem with fast tracking fighters at times. He went from a low to a massive high within a year.

I agree with Path to a large extent, when you become a champion i can't see how fights against a contender are to early. You become the hunted when your a champion that was always the risk with Khan. If someone is a really elite fighter in your division and you've just won a title i can understand a fight being a little early but a contender shouldn't be to early really. I think it was to early in the plans of Roach who wanted him to evolve into the role but i think Khan stepped into the role very well actually but the problem was he didn't improve after the initial transitional period with Roach.

 

On one hand I agree with what you are saying but on the other hand I'd rather this happens and he learns from it then watch 3 or 4 bull**** fights which are billed as main event etc

I'm in the camp that argues there should be a formative period in the beginning but progression in each fight. Once you start hitting British, Euro, world title level you should maintain and your education is done in the gym.

Khan has sparred top amateurs to contenders like McEwan to the best like Pac. It's not exactly like a fight but the footage on Ringside showed us how shockingly stupid Khan can be. The guy was a good impression of Garcia, albeit a poor mans version, and Khan still fought stupid.

His natural inclination is to get involved, he was like that against Mario Katsidis and switched it up for the final fight.

He can do better but after the Maidana fight, he got too much confidence back and now he has had to learn again the hard way. A **** fight wouldn't change that, it would simply prolong the wait for his downfall that exposed his naivety.

consistant failure to meet your targets means u get canned, Khan has lost 2 in a row now, they wont support him forever
