    Want a bit of advice.

I'm a long time boxing fan, but I've never stepped foot in a gym.... I've got a speedball, punch bag, skipping rope etc in my garage. I've done pad work countless times over the years, but I've never stepped foot in an actual gym.

I'm no Sugar Ray, but I can work my way around the equipment pretty well.

There's one just opened up near me. I really wanna go down there but I'm a bit nervous. Don't know why really.

    Any advice?

accept the fact that you will get worked properly from your trainer, pushed to places you didn't think you could go or never thought you would go.

its not easy but the more you go or keep going to the gym the more easier it will get - to a degree!!

If its just opened up chances are there will be plenty in the same boat as you. That you are asking on here shows you are probably respectful enough not to turn up acting lairy. Just go and ride with whatever they throw at you, deep ends best.

Just go along. The coach will probably be delighted as you would bring abit of money into the place. Also abit of proper coaching will be good for you.

90% of the battle is mental, once you get in the gym all those things you worried about two times and more aren't any issue in the gym.

You already have the right mindset, your humble and that is the key. Mate i've seen some people who have boxed for years and still struggle. I went to gym for first time in a year earlier this year, i was nervous. You build things up in your mind. I got there and tbh the people there were regulars and weren't doing anything special and the good thing is you have practical experience and your a fan.

Just go in and show your willing to learn, and put the work in :good.

Starting a gym is great. If your already physically fit that's a bonus

I struggled as a kid, I was big for my age and had to buddy up with grown men in some of the exercises. I thought I'd be amazing and know more than the trainers. Well day one- learned how to stand and day two how stand again, because I wasn't listening. I thought punching a bag and shadow boxing was core training. Basically, I was a muppet. Learning how to throw a punch from the foot, through the hips and following it through amazed me.

I did it for a few months and then took up smoking and drinking etc.... Sometimes when I watch a great fight I think I could do a Rogan!

just joined an MMA club (literally no boxing gyms where I live now, not without a £60 14 hour ferry trip or flight), was pretty nervous but just went for it. Im the unfittest guy there by far, was pretty embarassing but I went back next session and showed improvement, my coach knows ive smoked heavily for ten years and is letting me join on the basis i train to compete once my cardio improves, good to give me something to work toward
