Tony Bellew to face Edison Miranda on September 8

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by venusdiablo, Jul 24, 2012.

  1. It's a 'name', a dangerous puncher but a very winnable fight for Tony. Great match-up.

Hope my Sky Sports News app reporting it to be at light-middle is wrong though, could see Tony really struggling to make weight ;)

This is a really good fight and I'm picking Bellew to box his ears off and look really good. If Tony gets into a swinging competition then I'm taking Pantera to put him on his arse

Miranda is tough opposition, largely because of the experience he has. The best fighters Bellew has been in with are McIntosh, Cleverly and McKenzie. McKenzie was the most experienced of them but had only ever been 8 rounds before. Cleverly and McIntosh had less fights combined than Miranda currently has, so that difference in experience will test Bellew, I think. Miranda is a dirty fighter who has been about and fought some excellent opponents such as Pavlik, Abraham, Bute and Ward, so he knows what he's doing. He's not beaten a high quality opponent in a while but he's a very tough gatekeeper to the top 10.

All that said, I'm a big Bellew fan and I think he will have enough to beat Miranda. I think he'll have to rely on his boxing in the early stages because going to war with a banger like Miranda is not a good idea for anyone, even though Bellew hits hard himself. I think he'll box well and when Miranda tires, Bellew will pounce and get the stoppage in about 10 rounds.

Great fight for us fans though. Matchroom keep on delivering.

    Good fight. War Tony :bbb

I think Miranda will have a few moments early on & then Bellew stops him rounds 6-9

I'd put Miranda under the 'beatable but dangerous' file!

Looking a good show, who is Barker against?

I think this is a good, winnable fight for bellew, with
a respectable opponent and a bauble on the line that will enhance his ranking...

This is a good fight. Will be good to see how Bellew stands up to Miranda's shots. Miranda could be worth a few quid for the stoppage in this.

Good fight this. Bellew has much better fundamentals and could use jab/raiding tactics to win on points. Both guys hit hard but both can be decked.

Great match up, TB deserves a fight like this, seems like he's been in perpetual training for yonks now. I've never been to Ally Pally, looks like a ***** to get to. Not sure how TB should approach the fight, Makenzie 2 caution or look for an impressive stoppage over a named fighter.

Kudos to Bellew for taking this fight. Edison Miranda is a solid puncher, however he is shop worn. He reminds me of Samuel Peter stylewise because he's very crude, but can be easily outboxed and his chin has deteriorated after that war with Arthur Abraham.

So long as Bellew keeps Miranda on the backfoot with the jab and frustrates him, even tying him up at close quarters, the early part of the fight should wear Miranda down.

Then it should be easy pickings in the late rounds, Miranda's power doesn't seem to last after the 6th round or so, making the latter part of the fight much easier for Bellew. Who has shown he can easily last the distance, after his fights against Cleverly and McKenzie.

I'm going to be bold and have a bet on this one being a late stoppage in the 9th round for Tony 'Bomber' Bellew, after a couple of early scares in the first three rounds.

Good fight this, Tony has been down before and Miranda hits like a car crash. I know Miranda is a bit past it now but it'd be a big win for Tony
