    consider the seat saved!

btw it wasn't a "Domestic" thought of fight in those Golden Years, the British Title was like a world title in it's prestige, and yes Gilroy was an excellent fighter, whose defeats were against the Big Boys and the even Bigger Boys that controlled the fight game!

    Thanks for saving the seat

You are indeed correct the 'Mr Bigs' over the pond had the boxing titles tied up.

    Mob rule.

Come on man. I can name ten guys off the top of my head who would kill Mike in a street fight.

Duran is one. Police reports document a fight involving him and FIVE men whom he beat the heck out of. Chuck Wiggins knocked out 3 policemen outside of a bar. Stan Ketchel battered 4 men (killing 1) trying to **** him on a boxcart....never heard any legit street fight stories about Tyson?

Only the one of him offering to carry an old lady's groceries up to her apartment and then blasting her in the face in the elevator and stealing her purse - sorry but tough guys don't do that....
... they also don't run from a fight like he did against Mitch Green, who probably was a better street fight then Tyson ever was. Iran Barkley said Green was the most feared gang member in Manhattan - they hadn't even heard of Mike Tyson from Brooklyn.

Bowe was scared of Tyson. He said back in Brownsville if he saw Mike (and his gang of course) walking down the street he'd cross the road.

Good list...however. Marciano was too much of a nice, classy guy, he'd probably walk away or try to talk his way out of it. Tyson was another one of those guys who's tough when his friends are with him. Foreman - well I've heard mixed reports on him, he admitted having uncontrollable shakes against Frazier. The only fight stories he mentions in his book is knocking out drunk guys (with his friends!) and stealing their wallets.

Galento is a legit tough guy. Wiggins would be a man I'd want on my mind as would Harry Greb and Mickey Walker.

Do you think Tony might have known a dirty trick or two? Having watched the Nova fight, do you think Tony might have been an anti-social sadist?

He would be about the last guy I would want to fight outside a ring.

Legend has it that Marciano was "discovered" in a bar fight in England while in the service. He was also known to scrap quite a bit as a teen.

You won't expect pugilists in a bar fight.
An ATG toughman should be considered.

    Mother****ing Sugar Butterbean.

While horrible against a pugilist, if you get hit by a clean hit by that guy you will go down.

for 400+ lbs he is very fast.
If he gets such a clean shot on any ATG (which he won't except maybe a 70s foreman who maybe thinks can walk through that shot, hoping foreman is dumb enough) they will go down no doubt.

Before I forget, being a southpaw really helps.
A strong blow to the liver knocks everyone out, punching somebody in the face risks your own fists.

Actually although it may sound laughable I kind of agree with you. At least in the sense that Butterbean would do damage in a real fight.

It's not like people who have bar fights actually use head movements (besides a forgetable minority), 400+lbs of bodyweight that you just catch with your head.

Somebody would be a fool to think that would be a good idea.

Same fight with that wrestler again (sorry)

I would expect a professional wrestler to have a chin.(he also has a thick neck like Holyfield which helps in absorbing shots)
Nobody would take such a shot.

Sorry I am repeating myself but I do think Butterbean is underrated against non pugilists.
Just because he sucks against any kind of not even decent pugilists doesn't make him a wonderful stopper of people who don't get the fine art.

Despite being a very nice, classy guy, Marciano was known to have a temper and to be involved in numerous street altercations. A famous one he was involved in was with a huge Australian guy in a bar when Marciano was in the service. Reportedly, Marciano flattened him with 1 shot. I've heard of another one where Marciano and some guy from another baseball team squared up and once again Marciano ended up walking away as the other guy laid on the ground bloody and out cold.

Reports indicate that Tyson did not run away from Green, he beat him down. Green's broken nose, swollen eye, and gash between his eyes back this up.

Even though Duran P4P I'm sure was a better street fighter than Tyson, the fact is that Duran was a 5'7 lightweight to middleweight fighter. He would not be able to take the shots of a heavyweight champion. He most likely would not even beat a guy like Muhammad Ali (who was not a street fighter at all) in an alley fight. The heavyweights would be far too strong and powerful for him.

I read that in an interview he said he never knew how to take Tyson at times, so would just steer clear of him. No shame in that, he was ****ing mental. Still, Bowe was a warrior and I could imagine him raising an inordinate amount of hell on a Saturday night in a local kebab shop.

    Butterbean.

Didn't Greb KO Walker in a bar fight?
